Avocado: benefits and harms for women's health
Unusual fruit avocado is a real exotic in our area. Most women are only indirectly familiar with it, since cosmetic products for skin and hair are often made on its basis. However, avocados are no less beneficial for women's health when eaten.
What it is?
Avocado is a pear-shaped fruit with a dense green skin. At home, because of this, it is also often referred to as the “alligator pear”, however, some varieties may be more rounded and reach a diameter of 22 cm. Such fruits are harvested from trees that are also called “avocados” or, if using the botanical name, Perseus american.
An unusual plant came to us from Mexico. Now it is widespread on the American continent, and many centuries ago it was first discovered by the Aztec tribes. It was they who learned to artificially cultivate avocado trees, the fruits of which were called “shark oil” because of the specific structure of the pulp.
Interestingly, the Aztecs used avocados as a medicine. During archaeological research, various records were often found that mentioned a remedy from an avocado seed ground into gruel. The Indians mixed it with soot and some other substances and used it as a very effective remedy for skin irritations, scabies, and dandruff.It is also known that the Aztecs did not allow breastfeeding mothers to eat these fruits, as babies could develop severe intestinal upset.
In some countries, avocados are considered food for the poor. In its homeland, this plant bears excellent fruit, so it can be found in large quantities in the public domain. But in most countries of Asia, central and northern Europe, avocado fruits are much more expensive than ordinary apples or pears.
Today, avocados are known all over the world and are very actively exported. Trees are cultivated in countries such as Mexico, Chile, USA, Colombia, Australia, Peru, Ecuador, Haiti, Spain. Ripe fruits are used not only in cooking, but also in pharmacology and cosmetology.
In Russia, American Perseus takes root hard due to the specifics of the climate, so we do not have the conditions that would allow us to engage in the mass cultivation of useful fruits. However, many grow avocados as an ornamental plant.
Compound
Avocado fruits have unique properties due to their original biochemical composition. The most unusual is the fact that avocados contain a large amount of fats and oils, which is very uncharacteristic of fruits.
The BJU formula for a standard avocado is as follows:
- proteins - 2.44%;
- fats - 22.62%;
- carbohydrates - 1.41%;
- dietary fiber - 33.5%;
- water - 2.82%;
In terms of calories, the average serving of fruit pulp contains approximately 160 kcal. Such food can hardly be called dietary, especially given this ratio of proteins and fats, but avocados can really be useful.
The composition of the "alligator pear", in addition to the above macronutrients, includes a lot of other components necessary for the human body:
- Vitamin A. It helps to strengthen the peripheral nervous system, stabilizes the emotional state, and is also necessary for skin health.
- Vitamin E indispensable for the normal functioning of all endocrine organs. It improves the nutrition of organs and cells, and also affects hair growth. In cosmetology, vitamin E is always used where it is necessary to strengthen the hair follicles and improve blood flow to the skin.
- Vitamin C improves the natural immunity of a person. Most often, it is presented in the form of antioxidants and acids, which help eliminate toxins from the body.
- B vitamins also often referred to as "beauty vitamins". There are quite a lot of them in avocados, which makes these fruits really valuable for young women. For example, riboflavin directly affects the condition of the skin, hair, nails, mucous tissue. With a lack of this substance, wrinkles appear much faster, multiple inflammatory processes form on the surface of the skin.
- Iron. This trace element is indispensable for building red blood cells and hemoglobin, which carry oxygen throughout our body. With a lack of iron, for example, after heavy blood loss or during pregnancy, iron deficiency anemia may develop.
- Copper and magnesium essential for normal metabolism. They contribute to the correct ratio of the processes of accumulation and expenditure of energy.
- Calcium is known to all the "building material" of bone tissue.Additional dietary calcium intake is indicated for actively growing children, as well as for women during pregnancy or after childbirth, who may lack the simplest trace elements in the body.
- Phosphorus also useful for bone tissue, it promotes better absorption of calcium ions. However, in addition, this microelement is well known as a stimulant of the nervous system. It also improves concentration and mental activity.
- Potassium stimulates the work of the heart muscle. It also strengthens the walls of blood vessels, increases their elasticity and strength.
- Lecithin - a biologically active substance that improves neural connections and contributes to the preservation of cognitive functions. It has been proven that sufficient consumption of foods high in lecithin, which also includes avocados, slows down the aging of the brain.
- Chlorophyll. A natural bactericidal substance that selectively acts on the intestines, thereby reducing the risk of developing colitis and similar inflammatory diseases.
- Oleic and linoleic acids. They reduce the deposition of cholesterol in the blood, break down atherosclerotic plaques on the surface of blood vessels. These substances reduce the harm from the high fat content in the composition of avocado fruits.
- Glutathione - one of the most powerful antioxidants. Eliminates toxic compounds, improves the appearance of the skin, strengthens immune cells.
In addition, it is important to note that most of the fats found in avocado pulp are monounsaturated. It is these fats that are necessary for all people who for some reason are limited in the use of meat, fish, dairy products, and they are also great as a source of energy and health for all women who care about their figure and beauty.
fruit properties
To date, it cannot be said that modern science has fully studied all the important qualities of avocado fruits. For medicinal purposes, they were used even by the ancient Aztecs, but in the modern world, avocados are more common as an unusual ingredient in salads and other dishes. The bones of these fruits are unsuitable for food, but very effective cosmetics for women are made from them.
In addition to the mass of useful trace elements, vitamins and biochemical substances, the avocado pulp contains natural hormonal biological components. This once again confirms the fact that avocados are especially useful for women, as they contribute to the overall rejuvenation of the body.
Also, these unusual fruits have the following useful properties:
- Fresh and ripe fruits contain substances that stabilize the nervous system, reduce irritability and emotional lability. In this regard, they are often recommended for use by women during pregnancy, during "critical days" or during menopause.
- Many obstetricians call this fruit indispensable for pregnant women due to the high content of monounsaturated acids. The inclusion of avocados in the diet of a future mother allows you to exclude a lot of more harmful products, but at the same time preserve all the amino acids necessary for the normal formation of the fetus.
- Among all the organic acids that are found in the pulp of the avocado fruit, most of it is folic acid.It has been proven that sufficient intake of folic acid with food reduces the risk of intrauterine defects in the unborn baby.
- Fresh fruit pulp consists of the most optimal combination of water, fats and bioactive hormones. Its use improves skin elasticity. Wrinkles are smoothed out faster, healthy color and shine return.
- Moderate consumption of avocados is also indicated for women who are breastfeeding. Proteins and vitamins contained in fruits improve the quality of milk produced by the glands.
- Avocado also contains phytoestrogens. This is a natural analogue of female hormones, which helps to improve the appearance of any woman, increases libido, general state of mind, and strengthens the emotional background.
- Reduces stress on the nervous system and improves its function. With regular use, sleep phases quickly stabilize, mental overstrain and headaches stop, efficiency, concentration, attention and memory increase.
- It cleanses the blood of excess cholesterol and eliminates atherosclerotic plaques.
- Strengthens joints, teeth, bone tissue.
The benefits of ripe avocados for the female body are very high. The unique biochemical composition of these fruits allows you to fight against premature aging at the cellular level and easily prevents diseases of the skin, hair, nails.
However, this effectiveness of fruits can also have a negative effect. There are situations when eating avocados is undesirable, as it can be harmful to health. Contraindications may be the following:
- Food allergy to citrus fruits. Avocado contains almost all the components of citrus fruits, so it can cause an unwanted reaction in the body.
- Diagnosed obesity.In the presence of a pronounced excess of fatty tissue, it is better to exclude such fruits from your diet, since they contain a lot of fats and oils.
- Excessive consumption of avocados can lead to acute intestinal disorders, accompanied by diarrhea.
Never use dishes or recipes that suggest eating processed avocado pits or leaves inside! These parts of the fruit contain a dangerous toxin, which in significant dosages leads to serious poisoning of the body, up to coma.
Features of influence
The main feature of avocado is that it contains a large number of different bioactive substances. This is especially important for the female body, since the health of the fair sex is more dependent on the hormonal background and its work.
That is why such fruits are very important in difficult periods for women. These, of course, include pregnancy, childbirth, feeding a child, the onset of menopause. All these important stages in the life of every woman give a very strong load on the body, including the cardiovascular, nervous, and endocrine systems.
Therefore, it is very important that the diet of any woman contains all the elements she needs.
During pregnancy, avocado supports the general condition of the woman's body. In the early stages, this is especially important, since the initial laying of the embryo and its active growth require huge expenditures of microelements, protein, fats and carbohydrates, and at the same time, the pregnancy process itself puts a serious burden on the woman, including affecting the nervous system and emotional background. .
In the early stages, the fruits are an important source of vitamins and energy for the expectant mother.They also “soften” sudden changes in hormones and contain useful components that reduce the risk of spontaneous abortion.
Eating avocados is also recommended in the later stages. The fact is that the fruits contain a lot of vitamin B6 in the form of folic acid, which prevents the appearance of birth defects in the baby. Also, these fruits, thanks to biologically active substances and antioxidants, reduce the clinical manifestations of toxicosis and reduce swelling of the lower extremities.
There is an opinion that the use of avocados, as well as many other fruits, should be prohibited for a nursing mother, as this can lead to intestinal disorders in a child. However, in fact, a small amount of avocado pulp in the mother's diet enriches breast milk with proteins and vitamins, which is very beneficial for the growing body and its immune system.
When breastfeeding, it is important to refrain from such foods only in the first month, when the baby's digestive system is just adapting to food. Then you can gradually add avocados and other healthy fruits to his "diet", including them in the mother's diet.
Recipes
Many people like to eat avocados in their pure form. The pulp of ripe fruits has a very soft, subtle nutty flavor. At the same time, the exotic "pear" does not have any pungent odors and does not leave a sour aftertaste.
For eating, it is enough to rinse the fruits with cold water and clean them properly. With a sharp knife, an incision is carefully made along the entire fruit from the top to the more rounded bottom, and then back. This way you divide the avocado into two identical halves, which should be turned and divided.On one of them, a large oily bone will remain in a small recess, which can be easily removed with a spoon. Then both halves are peeled and cut into slices for convenience.
Avocado is also used as an additional ingredient in many delicious dishes. For example, for a light snack, you can make sandwiches using it:
- For the base, take thin crispy toast of small sizes. The easiest way is to use a toaster, but you can also just lightly toast thinly sliced fresh wheat bread in a dry, clean skillet.
- Place finely chopped avocado on top of the toast. It is much easier with a blender to grind it into gruel and spread like butter.
- Add a piece of cheese or a small piece of lightly salted red fish on top.
- Garnish with a sprig of greenery.
Another popular recipe is a nutritious and light salad. The volumes of ingredients in this recipe are selected to taste:
- Put a small amount of boiled shrimp in a deep bowl. If they are large enough, they can be pre-cut into several pieces.
- Add diced avocado pulp.
- Add canned pineapple cubes
- Tear a few fresh lettuce leaves on top.
- For dressing, use a few tablespoons of low-fat natural yogurt. Mix thoroughly and serve.
Among women losing weight, the avocado diet is widely known. The fact is that these fruits are rich in fiber, so they quickly cause satiety and eliminate the feeling of hunger. At the same time, the high content of amino acids allows you to completely abandon fatty meat and other harmful products. The diet looks like this:
- Breakfast. Mix low-fat cottage cheese or low-fat yogurt in a blender with half an avocado. The mass can also be carefully knocked down with a fork in the absence of suitable kitchen appliances. A ready-made breakfast can be simply eaten with a spoon or put it inside the second half of an avocado and eat it as a whole dish.
- Dinner. You will need 2-3 avocado halves. Cut the pulp into small cubes and mix with slices of fresh juicy cucumber. You can also add chopped greens, and use fat-free yogurt for dressing.
- Dinner. Mix finely chopped half an avocado and low-fat cottage cheese. Serve with a small piece of boiled meat or fish.
Such a diet lasts no longer than four days, after which you should take a short break. Of course, dishes can be supplemented or changed somewhat depending on your taste preferences.
Also, do not forget that during weight loss, you should always drink enough liquid throughout the day.
Tips & Tricks
In order for fruits to bring as much benefit to women's health as possible, it is very important to choose only high-quality fruits. When buying, use the following tips:
- First of all, pay attention to the color of the avocado peel. It should be dark green with a slight brown tint. If the peel is almost black, then such a fruit can only be suitable for the preparation of cosmetic masks. A light green color means that the fruit is not yet ripe. You can buy it and then keep it for 1-2 days in a dry place until it darkens.
- The fruit should not be hard, but not too soft. Try to slightly squeeze it in the palm of your hand, and if you feel a slight elasticity, then the fruit is ripe enough.
- Don't forget to look at the stem. If it is brown and too dry, then the avocado is overripe.It is best to choose fruits with slightly dried light yellow “tails”.
