Banana leaves serve as a raw material for the manufacture of thick paper, from which packaging, postcards, and souvenirs are then made. The famous Cuban cigars are also made from banana wrap. In the Philippines, clothes are sewn from this material, and in Ceylon, shoe soles. In Ecuador, pillows are made from the leaves.

In India, banana leaves are spread on the doorstep of a couple who have just married, as it is believed that this plant symbolizes fertility.

In cooking

The use of banana leaves in cooking occupies a special place, and therefore this method of use is highlighted in a separate paragraph. In Thai cuisine, side dishes and desserts are prepared with this component, poultry and fish are baked. Making dishes with such a product is quite difficult and time consuming. Chicken curry (appetizer)

We will need:

  • banana leaves 50 g;
  • chicken breast;
  • coconut milk 80 ml;
  • garlic 3 or 4 cloves;
  • onion 1 pc.;
  • vegetable oil 1 tbsp. l.;
  • lemon leaves 50 g;
  • hot pepper 30 g;
  • lemon grass 1 tsp;
  • chili paste 2 tsp;
  • coriander, ground 1 tsp

Cooking:

  • Cut the breast in half, sprinkle with coriander. Add 1/2 of the pasta to the marinade and wrap in banana leaves.
  • Fry the garlic cloves without crushing. In the same pan, add the onion and fry.
  • Add the meat to the pan and fry a little over high heat for 5 minutes. Pour water and leave the dish until all the liquid has boiled away.
  • Pour in coconut milk, add chopped hot pepper, lemon leaves and simmer over low heat for about 20 minutes.
  • Finish with the remaining pasta.

Khanom sai sai (dessert)

For cooking you need to take:

  • banana leaves;
  • rice flour;
  • coconut milk;
  • pulp of fresh coconut;
  • palm sugar;
  • salt.

The number of products is selected individually.

Cooking:

  • Mix coconut milk, rice flour, salt and sugar.
  • Put the resulting substance on medium heat and cook until thickened, usually no more than 30 minutes. Then the dough should cool for two hours.
  • Put the pulp of coconut in a frying pan and fry, add palm sugar and continue to fry. Don't forget to stir.
  • As soon as the consistency thickens, make dense balls out of it.
  • Hold banana leaves over fire. Yes, they will loosen up a bit.
  • Put the dough on the sheet, stuffing on top, tie the structure and fasten it with a bamboo toothpick.

      The presented product is a very interesting and unusual solution for decorating dishes and giving an Asian flavor to the feast. In general, it is believed that anything can be wrapped in this natural wrapper - it withstands any temperature, binds products and does not allow them to spread.
