But still, you don’t need to focus on the appearance - it’s better to try them yourself, and then it will become clear that no other fruit can be compared with the taste of the local fruit. They are so tasty and sweet that you won’t want to try anything else, and their cost is low.
In Cyprus, the summer period coincides with the ripening of watermelons. They can be consumed from June to early September. At the beginning of the season, the price of watermelons is quite high, and then gradually decreases. Watermelon in Cyprus is the king of summer, and if you do not try it, then it is believed that summer has not come. They differ depending on which parts of the island they grew in. First, watermelons grown in Paralimni and Paphos appear on the market, and then those from Akka. The sun's rays contribute to the accumulation of a large amount of sugar in watermelons. Watermelons collected in Cyprus differ from all others in their juiciness and bright colors.
The first melons also appear in early June and are sold until early autumn. The price per kilo is not that high.
Apricots appear in June and are sold for two summer months. The best kind is the one that has yellowish fruits with a pink blush. The fruits are small and appear on the market earlier than others. But enjoy them for only a couple of weeks. For this they are valued more than other species. Much longer than others, Michael Carrick apricots have been on sale. They have large fruits of a light shade, beautiful and juicy.

Peaches and nectarines also go on sale at the beginning of the summer period. The very first types of peach ripening on the island are not as attractive in appearance as those brought from neighboring countries and sold in our domestic outlets. But they have juicy pulp and excellent taste.
Cherries ripen in late spring. Then it becomes possible to purchase it on the market. By the middle of the first summer month, she departs. Two types of cherries are grown here: purple-black and pinkish-white. These varieties grow very high in the mountains, which is why their cost is very high.
Strawberries in Cyprus bear fruit throughout the year, but the climate does not always allow it to be grown in unprotected soil. Because of this, it is grown in greenhouse conditions. But, when grown under the rays of the scorching Cypriot sun, it has excellent taste and wonderful smell.
The medlar is also popular in Cyprus. This fruit ripens in April. In the market you can usually see huge slides of these yellow fruits with leaves. It resembles a plum, but at the same time it has three seeds and juicy pulp, sour in taste.It is low in calories and has many vitamins in its composition.
Carambola is a unique fruit. When cut, it resembles an asterisk. It has a pleasant smell, and it tastes sweet.
On the territory of Cyprus, fig trees grow everywhere. Figs are used in finished form, after peeling off the skin, and dried. The fruit arrives at retail outlets from August to October. This distribution is due to the fact that at first the fruits are green, and then black with a blue tint.

Persimmon is a source of vitamins and microelements. Probably, Cyprus is almost the only place where you can taste a variety of fresh fruits in October and November.
Exotic fruits - mango, papaya, guava - began to be grown in the last century.
The mango grown here is very small, but no less tasty and sweet. Ripens closer to autumn. This fruit is characterized by tender pulp, which at the same time helps to quench both thirst and hunger.The appearance is not as beautiful as that of fruits brought from other countries, but the taste is very good.
Papaya is harvested from autumn to early January. The fruit is very large (up to several kilograms) and contains many vitamins. Perfectly breaks down fats in the body.
Guava appears at the end of September. Contains many vitamins and minerals.
On sale there are fruits of a prickly pear cactus. It was brought to the island in the 18th century. This fruit should not be touched without hand protection as it is very prickly. The fruit is peeled and the insides are eaten.
It is not recommended to buy these fruits for tourists vacationing with children, as they can get hurt on needles.
Plantations of banana palms stretch throughout Cyprus. They are covered with bags so that the birds do not damage the fruits. They are small in size and differ from those that were brought in because they are very sweet.

This includes items that were obtained as a result of ongoing excavations or found at the bottom of the sea, antiques and art treasures, birds and other living creatures. This list does not say anything about fruits, which means that any of them can be exported without restrictions.
Before exporting the fruits, they must be well packed so that they do not deteriorate. On the market you can buy plastic containers where you can store food during the flight.
You need to know how much luggage is allowed during the flight. Fruits should be taken just before departure, while they should be slightly unripe. Subsequently, they can be put in a dark place for ripening.
A few tips for travelers
Having settled in a hotel, you need to find out from its employees where the markets are located. The prices refer to the average European ones, and one cannot count on special cheapness. In winter, fruit prices are higher than in summer. Because of this, from the beginning of the year to March, it is better to buy fruits in stores, and from April to December - in the market.
In small shops there are several price categories for each product. They depend on the degree of freshness of the fruits. In most cases, boxes with fruits are located in front of the entrance, which have been discounted due to the fact that they cannot be stored for a long time, but this fact did not affect the quality of the fruit.
In the case of a holiday by the sea, drinks and fruits it is better to bring those bought in advance than to shop in small outlets in the beach area, as prices are high in them.
