Pomegranate oil: properties and application features
The pomegranate tree has been growing on Earth for over 5,000 years. Persia is considered its homeland, and its fruit is called divine. Perhaps this is due to its shape of the sepals. There is a version that it was the cup of the pomegranate that formed the basis for the creation of the headdress of crowned persons - the crown. The ancient Greeks wrote legends about this fruit, according to which it is a symbol of marriage and fidelity. In the Christian religion, the pomegranate was the emblem of the Virgin Mary and is considered a symbol of the Resurrection. In Turkey, newlyweds break a pomegranate to find out how many children will be married.
Everyone knows that pomegranate seeds are eaten. They contain a huge amount of vitamins, so they make delicious drinks - juices, wine, add to salads and various desserts. For all this, grains are used. But pomegranate oil, which is actively used not only in food, but also in cosmetology, as well as for medical purposes, is extracted from the seeds of the fruit of the tree. Let us consider in more detail why pomegranate oil is so attractive, why it is valued, and what is special about it.
How to choose?
Pomegranate oil is very expensive. This is due to the fact that the mass fraction of the finished product from the total amount of raw materials is very small. For example, to obtain 1 liter of oil, you need about 500 kg of fruit with a peel. At the same time, the shelf life of the oil is not more than one year. Therefore, it is often faked. In order not to run into a fake, you should pay attention to the labeling of the goods. The package should contain the name pomegranate seed oil or the Latin version of the marking - punica granatum.
This product can be purchased at pharmacies or in stores specializing in the sale of products of natural origin. Sometimes essential oils are found in flower and fruit boutiques. However, there you can find low-quality goods. If the oil is suspiciously cheap, it will not necessarily be a fake. Perhaps it's all about the way it is mined. This product can be obtained not by direct cold pressing, but by extraction.
The method of extraction must be indicated on the etiquette. If there is no such information, it is highly likely that this is an extraction.
Methods for obtaining oil
There are three ways to produce vegetable oils.
- Cold pressed. It is considered the best, because it allows you to save the maximum amount of nutrients. With this method, the fruit seeds are crushed and placed under a press. The oil obtained by this method has a short shelf life.
- Hot pressing. Before the seeds are placed under the press, they are pre-roasted to make them more flavorful. Trace elements and vitamins are also preserved in this way.
- Extraction. The seeds are crushed and poured with a solvent - grade A gasoline or hexane (these are by-products of petroleum). Further, the raw material is split into the actual oil (miscella) and waste (meal). The resulting products then undergo a complex process of purification and filtration. At the same time, most of the valuable substances disappear, vitamins are destroyed.
The resulting oil has a less pronounced color and aroma. But the flammability of such a product increases significantly.
Medical use
Pomegranate oil is a powerful antioxidant that stops inflammation and protects the body from viruses. It contains a large amount of vitamin E - 270 mg / 100 g. This is three times more than green tea. This amount of vitamin E is found only in wheat germ oil. And also this product contains punicic acid (omega 5) - this is one of the main components of the ether. Thanks to it, pomegranate oil helps to stop intestinal infections and helps with vascular diseases. It is added to the composition of various healing ointments and creams - for example, those intended for the treatment of skin diseases.
But also the ethereal liquid from pomegranate seeds can be used for the prevention of oncology. The substances contained in its composition are able to activate the hidden forces of the body in order to fight cancer cells. In addition, this essence reduces blood sugar, so the product is recommended for diabetics. Pomegranate oil lowers cholesterol levels, cleanses blood vessels and helps normalize the functioning of the heart muscle, which makes it very useful in the prevention and subsequent treatment of heart disease.
The pomegranate seed product is able to cope with many intimate problems that are not customary to talk about out loud. Many women report that the use of pomegranate oil reduces pain symptoms during menstrual cycles, and also facilitates menopause. And there are also reviews of men who claim that pomegranate oil has proven itself as a lubricator for intimacy. By increasing blood flow, a natural erection increases.
To ingest oil for the treatment and prevention of heart disease, it is enough to drop 3-4 drops under the tongue a day or the same amount at bedtime on the skin - for example, on the wrist.
But it is not recommended for pregnant women to use it due to the large amount of phytoestrogens in its composition.
Cosmetic properties of pomegranate oil
We have already mentioned the wound healing properties of pomegranate oil. Therefore, it is actively used in cosmetology. Pomegranate seed oil can often be found in the composition of various cosmetic care products for the skin of the face and body. Thanks to the fatty acids included in the product, cosmetics containing them have a tonic and rejuvenating effect. Pomegranate oil is able to reshape tired dry skin.
It reduces mimic wrinkles, heals small cracks and soothes irritated skin. The oil promotes the regeneration of skin cells, so it is often included in anti-aging and sunscreen cosmetics, as well as in creams and ointments to protect against frost and wind. At the same time, its share in cosmetics can be only 0.5%, since the pomegranate seed product is very concentrated.

So, oils for Vivasan are produced by Elixan Aromatica from the town of Gaville. Another Vivasan partner is Swiss Caps, which manufactures biological nutritional supplements and natural oils in capsules.
Oswald specializes in the production of food products, and the Italian company Cosval produces hair cosmetics using essential oils - gentle hair dyes, balms and hair shampoos.
