Strawberry "Chamora Turusi": variety description, planting and care

Strawberry Chamora Turusi: variety description, planting and care

Most gardeners plant strawberries in their summer cottages. Currently, there are a huge number of different varieties of this berry. Today we will talk about Chamora Turusi strawberries.

Characteristic

To begin with, consider a detailed description of this strawberry variety. "Chamora Turusi" is considered a Japanese variety, its berries ripen with a short daylight hours. The plant has powerful and massive bushes with a large number of leaves, they form a lot of whiskers. The level of winter hardiness of such strawberries is high, but at the same time its resistance to drought is low.

The fruits of the "Chamora Turusi" variety have a pleasant aroma of garden or forest strawberries. The average weight of each berry is approximately 60-70 grams. The yield can reach 1.5 kilograms per seedling.

The berry pulp of this variety has a bright red color. It is fleshy, dense and juicy. The shape of strawberries is round, slightly conical, with slight irregularities and folds.

The duration of fruiting of this strawberry is six years. But the largest harvest of berries is harvested three years after planting in the soil. The first fruits fully ripen in mid-June, but the main stage of ripening occurs only at the end of the month.

Advantages and disadvantages

The Chamora Turusi strawberry variety boasts a number of important advantages.

  • Excellent taste qualities.The fruits of this strawberry have a sweetish, pronounced taste. In addition, they differ in juiciness.
  • Simple care. "Chamora Turusi" is not a whimsical strawberry variety, so standard dressings and timely watering are enough for normal development.
  • Persistent aroma of wild strawberries.
  • High level of frost resistance. Strawberries "Chamora Turusi" even with sudden temperature changes will not wither and will bear fruit.

Despite the large list of advantages, Chamora Turusi strawberries also have some disadvantages.

  • Hard tolerant of drought. With a sharp increase in temperature, the bushes will wither, and the crop will deteriorate.
  • Requires a large area for cultivation. Strawberries of this variety are large in size, so a lot of land is needed to plant them.
  • Susceptibility to fungal diseases. Strawberry bushes of this variety should be treated in advance with solutions against such diseases.

How to plant?

Before planting strawberry seedlings directly, they need to be prepared. To do this, the roots of the plant are soaked in a weak solution of potassium permanganate. This should be done a day before the start of the landing.

Then the root system of strawberries is treated with a mass consisting of clay and manure. After that, the seedlings are thoroughly dried. This is done within two hours.

To plant strawberries of the Chamora Turusi variety, you first need to find a suitable place for this. Such strawberries are grown in fertile chernozem lands, but sandy, loamy soil types on the site may also be suitable. Most gardeners recommend planting and growing plants on slightly elevated surfaces.

Before planting, fertilize the soil with special nutrients.If you are planting on sandy lands, then be sure to fertilize them with peat or pre-prepared compost. These components will protect such soil from drying out.

If you want to plant strawberries in clay soils, then you should fertilize them with river sand in advance. This component will allow the root system of the plant to develop normally. Often, a drainage layer consisting of branches is taken instead. Strawberries "Chamora Turusi" should be planted in well-lit places. At the same time, do not forget that areas with plants must be protected from the wind.

It is necessary to plant seedlings after a certain distance (at least 50 centimeters). This provides them with good ventilation. It is necessary in order to avoid many diseases and invasions of harmful insects. Also in this case, you can easily remove the whiskers, loosen and weed the soil.

Each strawberry seedling is placed in a hole to a depth of no more than 15 centimeters. Its root system is carefully straightened and covered with earth a little. This variety is planted at the end of August. If the region is characterized by too cold winters with little snow, then planting is best done in late spring.

If a temperate climate prevails in the region, then the Chamora Turusi variety can be planted even in autumn. It is also better to prepare the beds for planting in the fall. To do this, they are carefully dug up and mixed together with dolomite flour and soil.

Features of care

Variety care includes the following procedures:

  • watering;
  • top dressing;
  • pruning;
  • pest prevention.

Watering

Watering strawberries of the Chamora Turusi variety should be done in moderation. Otherwise, the soil may become waterlogged.The first watering is recommended in late April or early May.

Water for irrigation should be warm: its temperature should be at least 15 degrees. The amount of water per bush should be 0.5 liters per week. In hot weather, plants should be watered daily.

top dressing

Do not fertilize strawberry seedlings too often, as this can harm them. In autumn, it is better to add humus or ordinary sawdust to the soil. For the same purposes, you can use limestone and bird droppings.

pruning

Do not forget to carry out timely pruning of plants, because strawberries grow too intensively. During pruning, old and diseased mustaches and leaves are also removed. Perform this procedure, as a rule, in August.

Prevention

Normal cultivation of strawberry seedlings is possible only if the bushes are not exposed to various parasites. To avoid this, you need to monitor the condition of the soil. It should not be too moist, because such soil is a favorable zone for various pests.

To prevent pests from appearing on seedlings, you must also regularly mulch the ground with sawdust. You can additionally treat strawberry bushes with a fungicide solution or a mixture with iodine.

Diseases and pests

Strawberries of the Chamora Turusi variety, like most other varieties, are often exposed to various pests and diseases. Often plants suffer from fungal diseases. These include white and brown spotting, due to which the root system of seedlings can be severely damaged.

When strawberry bushes begin to get sick with these diseases, small spots form on their leaf blades. To cure the berry, you need to use special fungicides.The most effective of them are Oxyhom, Horus, Ridomil.

Often the bushes of "Chamora Turusi" are exposed to the larvae of May beetles and slugs. They can severely damage strawberries. In this case, plantings are best treated with insecticides. The most famous of them include Decis and Calypso.

Weevil can damage strawberries the most. Due to the activity of this parasite, lattice holes appear on the buds and leaves. Adult parasites will have to be manually removed from the bushes periodically.

Often on the berries of this variety you can see a light gray fluff. In the process of development, it can also form on the leaves. Gardeners call this disease gray rot. To cure it, it is worth spraying the bushes with a solution of iodine (5 milliliters per 10 liters of pure water).

Against gray rot, you can also apply a solution of mustard (100 grams per 10 liters of water). Spray the bushes with this liquid once a week.

Some gardeners immediately use effective chemicals (Fundazol, Teldor).

This plant can also damage the strawberry mite. Diseased fruits become gray-brown in color and are severely deformed. To cure strawberries from this pest, it is better to immediately use strong chemicals (Fitoverm, Neoron). Leaves and buds are sprayed with similar solutions.

Verticillium can also harm strawberry seedlings. With this disease, the leaf blades of the bushes begin to wither and twist. Over time, small spots of red-yellow color form on them. An almost black coating can be seen near the tuber.Verticillosis is treated with chemicals ("Benorad", "Fundazol"), but even such strong remedies cannot always completely cure seedlings and save them from death.

Fusarium also affects strawberries. This disease causes the leaves to turn yellow and wilt quickly. The whiskers of the plant acquire a gray-brown hue. For treatment, effective chemicals (Benomyl) should be used immediately. If the strawberries could not be cured, then the soil on which it grew must be treated with Nitrafen.

Strawberry bushes are also affected by black root rot (rhizoctoniosis). Because of it, the root system of seedlings is damaged. Brown spots form on them, leaf plates dry quickly and fall off. It is impossible to fight the disease. You can only carry out regular preventive spraying with special solutions.

Assembly and storage

It is easy to collect and carry Chamora Turusi strawberries. After all, the berries can remain fresh and dense for a long time. Fruit can be stored for several weeks. The berries of this variety are often used for making jam, jam and just for canning. It is recommended to pick strawberries early in the morning or in the evening in dry weather.

reproduction

Strawberry "Chamora Turusi" can multiply in several ways:

  • antennae;
  • seeds;
  • by dividing the bush.

tendrils

This method is considered the simplest. From the plant (it must necessarily reach the age of three), some of the strongest and densest whiskers are selected. They can simply be drowned in the ground with a curved wire. In this case, the shoot will take root in a month, after which it is transplanted into the soil.

You can cut off the selected antennae and place in a container with a special solution to stimulate the growth of the root system.In this case, they will take root in 2 or 3 weeks. After that, they can be planted on the site.

seeds

This method is considered the most laborious and long. For this, the largest fruits are selected. The pulp with seeds is separated from them and all this is dried for a long time.

The selected material is placed in a separate container with universal soil. Later, peat and humus are added there. All this is covered with a lid.

A cup of soaked seeds is placed in the refrigerator for two weeks. Then the container is sent to the windowsill. Regularly its contents should be sprayed with clean water. Wait until at least a couple of young leaves form. After that, transplant the plant into a separate pot.

When a small seedling in a pot has 4-6 leaves, it must be carefully removed from the container. Then it can already be transplanted into open ground.

By dividing the bush

With this reproduction, you need to choose a whole strawberry bush. He must be absolutely healthy. It is divided into 3-4 equal parts.

Remember that each part should have at least 5-6 young leaves. The root of the fragment must be at least five centimeters long. Separated plants are planted in open ground immediately after the procedure. At the same time, fertilizers must be applied to the soil.

Reviews of summer residents

Many gardeners have left positive feedback on Chamora Turusi strawberries. So, some of them noted the good frost resistance of the variety. Even with severe frosts, the seedlings did not deteriorate and were able to give a good harvest.

Most gardeners have noticed that this variety of berries ripens quickly, unlike many other varieties of strawberries. The fruits of the plant grow large and juicy. The taste of this berry, according to gardeners, is very high.

Some summer residents spoke about high yields. With proper care, it can be 1-1.5 kilograms from one bush. With insufficient watering, the indicator may drop slightly, but at the same time the berries themselves will become sweeter and tastier.
