Buckwheat in a slow cooker: proportions and preparation

It would seem that what could be easier than cooking buckwheat porridge? There is an answer to this question - cook it in a slow cooker. Today, this wonderful device is at the disposal of every third hostess. Initially, the multicooker was set up exclusively for cooking different cereals, this also included buckwheat. Later, the multicooker was improved and equipped with new modes that allow you to cook a wide variety of dishes - from soups to desserts. In this article, we will look at the intricacies of cooking buckwheat porridge, the ratio of ingredients and the required cooking time.

Recipe for cooking buckwheat porridge in a slow cooker

Thanks to the use of a slow cooker, buckwheat comes out incredibly tasty and satisfying. If all the recommendations are followed, it is simply impossible to spoil the dish. It should be noted that regardless of the method of preparation of buckwheat, the ratio of water and cereals is a constant. In other words, non-compliance with the ratio of water taken and buckwheat will give the exact opposite of the desired result. For example, if you take a smaller amount of water, buckwheat will turn out dry and undercooked. In the case of a larger volume of water taken for cooking porridge, the dish will turn out to be boiled and liquid.

The ideal proportion of buckwheat and water is one to two, respectively. Regardless of the multicooker mode and the size of the glass used for measurement, if this ratio is observed, you are guaranteed to get an appetizing and nutritious dish.

So, first you need to make sure that you have one cup of buckwheat, two cups of water, half a teaspoon of table salt (it is advisable to give preference to finely ground salt). The algorithm for cooking buckwheat porridge on water in a slow cooker is as follows.

  1. It is necessary to carefully sort out the cereal for small pebbles and various impurities. Sometimes burnt black or unpeeled grains and husks come across, they must be removed.
  2. It is recommended that buckwheat groats cleaned of small debris be thoroughly washed to remove industrial dust that has settled on the grains. This will require a deep plate. Pour a small amount of cold water into it (just cold, this is important), then pour the required amount of buckwheat into it. Thoroughly rinse the cereal with intensive hand movements and drain the water. Repeat the procedure two or three times, it is not recommended to neglect this step. Despite the fact that during heat treatment all harmful microorganisms on buckwheat will be destroyed, industrial dust will create foam during cooking.
  3. After the preliminary procedures are carried out, buckwheat should be poured into the multicooker bowl. Then water is poured and salt is added.
  4. After closing the lid of the multicooker, select the "Cereal" mode. Depending on the model and brand, the names of the modes may vary. To cook buckwheat porridge on water, it is also permissible to use the “Porridge”, “Milk porridge”, “Rice” modes. In most cases, there is a pre-set cooking time for each mode. If the multicooker does not provide such a function, set the timer yourself for twenty minutes.
  5. At the end of the mode, a warning signal will sound. Cooked buckwheat is perfect for serving both on its own and with all types of meat and fish. Do not rush to get ready-made buckwheat from the multicooker immediately. It is advisable to let the dish cool a little and brew. Seven to ten minutes will be enough for this.
  6. After that, you can safely serve buckwheat porridge to the table, after flavoring it with a small piece of butter.

Cooking without using the special mode

Unfortunately, not all multicooker models have modes designed for making buckwheat porridge. However, it is still possible to do so. All housewives know that buckwheat is cooked in a saucepan for about forty to sixty minutes. In the case of a slow cooker, you only need to select a similar mode that will simulate cooking cereals in an ordinary saucepan on the stove. The closest modes are "Steam" and "Random". In the latter, it is necessary to independently indicate the temperature regime and the operating time of the multicooker.

It is necessary to achieve boiling water during the cooking process. And as everyone knows, its boiling point is one hundred degrees. Set the required indicator and fill the cereal, filling it with water from above. By and large, boiling water inside the multicooker is the only thing that needs to be achieved when cooking buckwheat porridge. In this regard, any mode that allows you to start this process will do.

Classic crumbly porridge

In fact, it is possible to achieve a crumbly texture, which is considered the most delicious and at the same time difficult to do, in a slow cooker. There are two different methods that you can try the next time you cook.

As mentioned earlier, non-observance of proportions does not give guarantees regarding the result. In the case of using a multicooker, everything is somewhat more complicated. According to a large number of reviews, many owners noted when cooking buckwheat porridge, excess liquid remaining after the program was completed. And this is quite understandable. No matter how modern the equipment is, it works according to the prescribed program, and therefore it does not control the cooking itself, it only works for the time specified by you or the manufacturer. Accordingly, the multicooker "dries" buckwheat for a certain period of time, and then turns off.

That's why in the first method, it is recommended to use a little less than the declared amount of water. In case of its shortage, you can always add a little during the cooking process. The second method will require your participation. If excess liquid is observed after the end of the program, you must re-activate the mode in order to continue the operation of the equipment.

It is advisable that you periodically open the lid and check the changes taking place inside the multicooker. This will avoid burning buckwheat to the inner walls of the equipment.

Benefit and harm

Regular consumption of buckwheat porridge can provide invaluable benefits to an adult and children's body. Also, this dish can be used as a source of protein for those who refused to eat meat and fish. The protein contained in buckwheat is almost the same as that found in meat products.Useful elements in this cereal contribute to better absorption of vitamins and vital trace elements from other products. For example, if you have vitamin deficiency, eating boiled buckwheat with citrus fruits will favor the absorption of vitamin C.

Although a small amount of flavonoids in the composition of buckwheat, it still helps to prevent the development of cancer, provided that porridge is regularly consumed. Also, this dish is recommended for patients with diseases of the blood vessels and heart. Buckwheat porridge is also recommended for pregnant women. Thanks to folic acid, the child in the womb develops properly. The B group of vitamins allows you to increase immunity, strengthen the nail plates, hair follicles, and even even out the tone of the face.

But the abuse of cereals can still bring some unpleasant consequences to the human body. For example, it is not recommended to follow a mono-diet for a long time, which involves eating only buckwheat porridge.

A person with diabetes should also consume this dish in moderation, as a significant amount of starch provokes an increase in blood sugar. The same applies to patients suffering from renal insufficiency.
