Repair raspberry

Remontant raspberries are able to produce twice a year - in early summer and autumn. Gardeners appreciate this feature of early ripening varieties and use it to the maximum. When buying remontant raspberry seedlings, be sure to specify the timing of its ripening in your region and climate zone.

For northern latitudes, choose exclusively early-ripening varieties so that the second crop does not fall on frosts.

The earliest variety "Augustina" gives the first fruits in early June, and the second crop appears from August to October. And let the berries of this variety are small, but they are very sweet, and the yield is quite good - 5 kg per bush.

Variety "Hercules" is unpretentious in care, frost-resistant, takes root in different climates and is resistant to fungal diseases. The advantage of the "Diamond" variety is frost resistance and the absence of thorns. "Arbat" begins to ripen in early July and ends in August. Its fruits are very large, bush without thorns, not afraid of diseases and pests. Also pay attention to the early varieties of remontant raspberries: "Red Guard", "Bryansk Divo" and "Bryansk Yubileinaya".

Features of care

The site for planting early ripe raspberries should be with good access to sunlight and not blown by north winds, as shade and drafts will negatively affect the amount of the crop. It is desirable that the plot of land where you plan to plant a shrub is fallow, or that mustard, rye or lupins have grown on it before. But the soil from under cabbage, eggplant, tomatoes, peppers or potatoes is hardly suitable, since these crops are able to draw all the nutrients out of the ground.

The best time to plant raspberries is early October. Early ripe raspberry seedlings should be placed in a well-lit place in the summer cottage. A gap of 70 cm is maintained between seedlings, and the row spacing is about 2 meters.

The soil should be sandy, contain a minimum of clay, while avoiding excessively wet and swampy areas. The best soil is loamy, with a neutral acidity index. Otherwise, you will have to deal with liming the earth.

In a hole about 70 cm deep, 2 seedlings are placed at once, so that the harvest will be large. Next, humus is added, and the hole is filled with water. The seedling is cut to leave a "stump" about 15 cm tall, thanks to which the plant adapts better to wintering. And after planting, the bush is watered and mulched.

Secrets of getting a good harvest

As you know, early ripe raspberry varieties do not give such a big harvest, so you should try to "help" the plant and properly care for it. In summer, watering raspberries should be done constantly, and the amount of water should be 30-40 l / m2 at a time. The land will have to be constantly loosened and fed with fertilizers in spring and autumn. And do not forget about tying and shaping the bush. After frost, remove the entire above-ground part of the raspberry, and it is enough to hide the shoots of frost-resistant varieties under the snow layer.

To prevent raspberries from being too small, learn how to properly water the plant. Do not irrigate the aerial part, as the water will simply evaporate from it, water the root part.

The largest amount of water will be needed during flowering, fruit formation and ripening. And if you notice that the greens are starting to fade, this is a sign that watering needs to be increased. At particularly high temperatures or drought, loosen about 5 cm of soil under the bush after watering so that the root system receives oxygen from the air.

Of course, when choosing a variety of early ripe raspberries, summer residents will have the taste of berries as a priority - everyone would like to enjoy large and sweet fruits. But do not forget that the shrub will bring the maximum yield only if it is provided with proper care. Of great importance are the characteristics of a particular variety. So, residents of Siberia and the Urals should choose ultra-early varieties with high frost resistance, and summer residents from the southern regions of our country can harvest raspberries even twice a year if they choose early varieties of remontant raspberries.
