The birthplace of the cucumber is India, where the vegetable began to be grown as early as the 3rd millennium BC. e. It later gained popularity in Egypt and Greece, and cucumbers were brought to Russia in the 15th century. Now in our country this crop is grown everywhere and is in demand. It is planted in large volumes on an industrial scale and in summer cottages, both in open ground and in greenhouses.
Before the Great Patriotic Revolution of 1917, peasants in the Moscow region were mainly engaged in crafts, animal husbandry and fishing. With the advent of the new government in the floodplain of the Oka River, mass plowing and distribution of land to local residents began, who began to grow various vegetable crops. The owners of the land paid attention to the fact that of all the vegetables planted, cucumbers grow and bear fruit best of all. Every year, on their plots, the villagers selected the most productive plants, so varieties appeared that in our time are known to everyone as “Lukhovitsky”. In the fifties of the twentieth century, many varieties were ranked among them, currently the most popular of them are Vyaznikovsky, Murom, Mirinda, Libella, Graceful.
Most recently, domestic breeders have bred a new variety - "Lukhovitsky Cucumber F1", which has all the historical characteristics of cucumbers from Lukhovitsy near Moscow. The variety is early ripe, having a female type of flowering. From one square meter you can harvest up to 10 kilograms.

Growing Secrets
The quality of Lukhovitsky cucumbers is primarily affected by the special fatty soil and microclimate of the lower reaches of the Oka River.Here, the climatic conditions are characterized by high humidity and a rather long frost-free period. Lukhovitsky cucumbers love fertile soil, a large amount of sunlight and lack of wind. Cucumber "Lukhovitsky F1" and its green counterparts are grown according to a special technology that has been developed over the years by Lukhovitsky residents. It is passed down from generation to generation.
Before the onset of winter, a trench is dug 1 m wide and at least 40 cm deep. On the sides of the trench is lined with wooden shields 25 cm high. In the spring, to destroy pests, the bottom and sides of the trench are poured with boiling water and covered with plastic wrap. Then the film is covered with sawdust with urea and a layer of manure is laid, which is covered with fertile soil. This layer is about 12 cm thick. A dark film is laid on top. After a few days, holes are made in it for planting seedlings.
Planting cucumbers is carried out in early spring, when the snow has not yet melted. In large greenhouses, straw is placed at the bottom, which is covered with earth mixed with peat and humus. Before planting, the seeds are soaked for several days to spit. As soon as the roots appear, the seeds are immediately planted in a greenhouse and covered with a film. The straw at the bottom of the greenhouse begins to rot and thereby gives up its warmth to young seedlings. In the greenhouse, feeding begins after three full-fledged leaves form on the plant.

Warming of greenhouses should be provided for in early spring, since at night the temperature can drop to 0 ° C.

Landing in open ground is carried out in early June, after the earth warms up well, and there will also be confidence that frosts will no longer occur. Seedlings are planted in the prepared trench, which already has four leaves. The transfer is done very carefully. In no case should the root system be injured, such plants no longer take root. Cucumbers are planted in watered holes at a distance of half a meter from each other.
The technology of planting in the holes of the film helps to protect against cold weather and the appearance of weeds. Regularly carry out airing (remove and cover the film again), and also water once a week.
Cucumbers in the beds require special care, since their root system is very close to the surface of the earth, therefore, during normal loosening, the roots of the vegetable are very much injured.
