Pepper "Belozerka": characteristics of the species and features of agricultural technology
When faced with the choice of sweet pepper seeds, gardeners usually prefer unpretentious varieties that do not require special care, are resistant to diseases and pests, but most importantly, that they please with an excellent harvest. One of these varieties is Belozerka pepper. It will be discussed in this article.
Characteristics and description of the variety
Pepper of this variety has recently become very common among gardeners. They, in turn, choose this type not only because of its taste properties. Basically, the subjects for choosing such seeds are complete adaptation to any conditions and high resistance to harmful factors.
Pepper "Belozerka" is a hybrid. Its bushes are quite tall. On average, the height is 80 centimeters, and the plants have an average degree of growth, so it is recommended to use retaining pegs or pre-make supports to which they can be tied.
The most important rule for obtaining a good harvest of Belozerka pepper is to purchase high quality seeds. You need to buy them exclusively from reliable suppliers. Seed harvesting can also be done at home, but you need to take into account the fact that this plant has such an advantage as hybridity.
Self-harvested seeds, of course, will not be wasted, but the harvest can be obtained only once, and it will not be the same as if the original was used.
Quality and germination checks can be made as follows:
- pour the seeds into a small container with water;
- to stir thoroughly;
- after a few minutes, remove the pacifiers that will float to the surface;
- leave usable seeds that have settled to the bottom of the container.
Experienced gardeners check seeds and fertility. The actions are the same as in the method described above, but only about 40 grams of salt per liter are added to the water, mixed and settled for seven minutes. As a result, not only empty shells will float to the surface, but also seeds that are unable to give a good harvest.
Some believe that it takes up to two hours to soak the seeds in water. You shouldn't repeat this mistake. Many summer residents have long known that a long stay in the water of seeds threatens to activate vital processes as a result of the absorption of excessive amounts of moisture. Very weak sprouts will appear from such seeds.
Following sorting, seeds suitable for planting must be treated with potassium permanganate dissolved in water. The solution should be pink. This simple process has a positive effect on the germination of the crop, making it the most resistant to pests and diseases.
A lot depends on the content of the soil. For pepper of this variety, the best soil will be consisting of:
- leaf land;
- sand;
- humus.
They also make a mixture of two parts of humus with peat and one part of sand.
To obtain Belozerka seedlings, the seeds are planted in February, but the temperature regime must be observed, which in the daytime should be no higher than 25 degrees.
This culture does not cause unnecessary trouble, however, its seedlings must be grown very carefully, especially the root system should not be ignored.In order for it to be protected, it is advisable to plant the pepper immediately in separate pots.
It is recommended to use peat, so when planting they can be immediately placed in a hole without disturbing the roots of the seedlings.
In the initial stage of development, peppers must be fed with special mineral compounds. This procedure is performed four times.
When three full-fledged leaves grow, the following composition is used:
- 15 grams of superphosphate;
- 5 grams of fertilizer containing potassium;
- 5 liters of water.
Two weeks later, another top dressing is made. The composition is the same, only twice as many components are diluted in the same amount of water.
After another couple of weeks, top dressing is done with nettle tincture. It is sold in pharmacies, you can also make it yourself. For this you need:
- 200 grams of dry nettle;
- alcohol.
Nettles are completely filled with alcohol and allowed to brew for two weeks in a dark, cool place. Then it must be filtered and diluted with water in a ratio of one to ten. When watering the plants, top dressing is added to the irrigation water in an amount of about one tablespoon of tincture per 250 milliliters.
The last dressing is also made using nettle infusion. It is done 14 days after the third stage.
yield
In terms of cultivation, the Belozerka variety belongs to the mid-season. From one square meter, an average of up to 8 kilograms of fruit can grow.
It is usually eaten fresh, cut into salads and various vegetable dishes. However, pepper is also used in the preparation of soups, for frying and stewing, it can be frozen and canned.
The fruit has a conical shape, weighing about 150 grams, juicy and pleasant aroma.Peppers keep well, it is possible to extend the shelf life by collecting the fruits before reaching maturity. They ripen well in room conditions. The only thing is that they should not be allowed to fall under direct sunlight and you need to create good air circulation.
It is not difficult to get a harvest from Belozerka. Even an inexperienced gardener can do this. You just need to follow the basic guidelines. It is worth noting that this pepper changes color from light green to bright red, and this depends on the level of ripeness. Along with the color, the taste also changes slightly. Using fruits of different maturity, you can get a dish that is excellent in taste and very beautiful in appearance.
Planting seedlings can be done after it gets stronger. In the middle lane, this is usually the beginning of summer. Suitable air temperature is considered to be about +27 degrees.
According to the laws of crop rotation, areas where it previously grew are suitable for pepper crops:
- cabbage;
- zucchini;
- pumpkin.
The landing site should be well lit.
If peat containers were used to grow seedlings, then it should be placed in the pits along with them, and in the case of using plastic pots, it is necessary to carefully remove the seedlings from them without damaging the roots. This can be done after careful watering.
Holes should be made with an interval of 50 centimeters from each other. When peat pots are used, there is no need to add anything to the pits, and in the case of containers made of other materials, it is recommended to put rotted leaves or acquired peat on the bottom of each hole.
Before planting seeds, moisten the ground and then do not water until the shoots germinate. As a result of covering with a plastic film, a greenhouse effect occurs, and there is enough moisture inside.
Further watering is carried out according to the situation, much depends on weather conditions. Before the appearance of buds, the plant can be watered, wetting the whole. Then it is recommended to water it only under the root.
Water should be used settled and warm. When planting pepper in an open place, it is recommended to water it in the evenings. At a later time, when the plant is resting, watering will bring more significant benefits.
Harvesting can be carried out both in the green state and during the acquisition of bright red fruits. In the first situation, the storage period increases by almost 1.5 times. In the second case, it will be better if the pepper is immediately eaten.
To grow a plant with a good harvest, it is necessary to use seeds with excellent quality.
The Belozerka harvest should be stored in a dry, cool place. A good option would be a cellar or pantry, but if there are none, then the lower shelf in the refrigerator will be quite suitable.
If you want to keep pepper fruits longer, you need to pick them with a stalk and carefully sort the fruits.
This variety can be frozen. After freezing, it almost does not lose its taste and useful qualities, and it is also possible to cook dishes rich in vitamins from it even in severe winter.
