Tomato "Andromeda": features, varieties and subtleties of cultivation
Early, tasty, beautiful, fruitful - all these epithets fit the description of the Andromeda tomato. He won the love of novice gardeners and experienced amateurs. However, in order to grow such a tomato, you must adhere to some rules.
Main characteristics
Tomato "Andromeda" appeared in 1998 thanks to the efforts of the famous breeder Mashtakov. The variety is hybrid and early ripe, represented by three varieties: red, pink and gold. They differ not only in the color of the fruit, but also in a number of other characteristics, which will be discussed below. From the moment the sprouts appear to the beginning of the harvest, it takes from 92 to 116 days. If the weather is cold with a lot of precipitation, then 4 to 12 days must be added to this period. The cultivar description is as follows:
- medium branching;
- hive deterministic;
- there is no standard characteristic;
- the height of the bush of an adult plant ranges from 58 to 72 cm, and in a greenhouse the maximum figure increases to a meter;
- semi-spreading type of bush;
- simple inflorescence.
The first inflorescence appears after the sixth leaf, all further inflorescences appear after one or two leaves. On one inflorescence can be located from 5 to 7 fruits. The fruits are of medium size, their skin is characterized by slight corrugation. In order for the yield to be high, it is necessary to ensure good watering and low humidity.
The plant takes root well, but has an underdeveloped root system.This does not prevent the Andromeda tomato from tolerating drought conditions well. Phosphorus and potassium supplements should be used as fertilizer. This is especially true during the preparation of seedlings, the development of inflorescences and the formation of fruits.
This variety can be grown in any region of Russia. In the southern regions and areas that belong to the Middle Strip, tomato can be grown in open ground. The Far East and Siberia are also suitable, but greenhouse conditions are required. The soil should be light. The following cultures are best suited as predecessors:
- all legumes;
- cabbage;
- onion;
- cucumbers;
- carrot.
All gardeners who have ever dealt with the Andromeda tomato are delighted with it. Some reviews are devoted to its excellent taste, others note early ripeness, resistance to bad weather and diseases. Laudatory reviews are innumerable, and the number of lovers of this tomato variety is constantly increasing. Tomato "Andromeda" is especially loved by people who live in regions with unfavorable conditions for growing such a crop.
Kinds
As mentioned earlier, the Andromeda tomato is represented by three varieties. Each variety is worth exploring in more detail.
- The red "Andromeda" F1 is the main subspecies. Plants are characterized by green leaves, red fruits with a flattened shape, which is convenient for canning as a whole. From one square meter of soil, you can harvest up to 9.5 kg.
- Golden Andromeda F1 matures from the moment the sprout appears within 104-112 days. Tomatoes have the largest weight, which can reach (320 grams). The fruits themselves have smooth edges, the shape is flat and round, painted yellow. There are about 4 nests in the fruits.Up to 8 kg of crop can be harvested from a square meter of land. The fruits have a sweet taste, which distinguishes them from other varieties of the variety. The leaf is colored green.
- Pink Andromeda F1 matures faster than all other varieties. This process takes 78-88 days. One of the distinguishing characteristics of this subspecies is the silvery shade of the leaves and pink fruits, the weight of which can reach up to 125 grams. Up to 10.5 kg of crop can be harvested from one square meter of land.
It is difficult to talk about productivity, since the growing conditions of tomatoes and the region strongly influence this indicator. For example, in the Chernozem region, from one hectare it is possible to collect from 125 to 550 centners. Even here there is a big discrepancy in numbers. For the Caucasus, these figures will be higher by about 100 centners. The maximum yield that was recorded is within 720 centners per hectare.
Landing
To obtain the fruits of tomatoes of this variety, however, like any other, it is necessary to go through several stages. You need to start with growing seedlings from seeds.
- Seeds are planted in early March. Pre-planting material is treated with a weakly concentrated solution of potassium permanganate, which will protect the seedlings from diseases.
- The containers that will be used for seedlings will need to be washed and dried.
- The prepared container is filled with a substrate - you can buy it ready-made or cook it yourself. To prepare the substrate at home, it is necessary to prepare two parts of the earth from the garden, one part of humus and sand.
- The filled soil needs to be well moistened, leveled and grooved no more than 1 cm deep.
- Prepared seeds are laid out in the grooves, which are then lightly covered with soil.
- It is better to cover the container with a transparent film - this way it will be possible to protect the soil from drying out and it will be possible to maintain a favorable microclimate for seeds.
- The containers are placed in a warm, well-lit place. Periodically, the soil is moistened, but the seeds should not be constantly soaked.
- After a week, you can expect the first shoots to appear. The film can be removed at this stage.
- When three true leaves appear on the sprouts, you can start diving. Seedlings are planted in separate pots and grow in them until planting in open ground.
Provided that the greenhouse is used for further cultivation of the crop, seedlings can be planted in the last days of May. The beginning of June is suitable for planting in open ground. A tomato of this variety belongs to large plants, therefore it is often impossible to plant seedlings: it is desirable to have about 4 plants per square meter.
Care
Tomato "Andromeda" does not require special care. The basic rules boil down to regular irrigation, preferably using warm water. It is also necessary to carry out weeding, as a result of which the earth will be loosened and weeds that clog the plant will be removed.
An adult plant needs to remove lateral stepchildren. These shoots need to be cut under the base so that even stumps do not remain. Lateral layers will pull on the strength of an adult plant, but there will be no harvest from them. As a result, the bush will be wide and powerful, but with low yields. The bush should consist of one or two stems - only in this case the fruits will be fleshy, large and tasty.
Pinching can be done by hand or using scissors.It is better to start with healthy bushes on which there are no visible signs of the disease. Scissors after each bush must be disinfected - this will prevent the spread of the disease. Pasynkovanie is best done in the morning, twice a week. If the weather is damp and cloudy, then ash is sprinkled in places of cuts or breaks.
The tomato responds well to soil fertilization. For these purposes, a special fertilizer must be applied under each bush of the plant. Another good way is a solution based on wood ash. Many experienced gardeners use a special fertilizer recipe that will add sugar to the fruit.
For a 10-liter bucket, you will need to take a tablespoon of salt and a glass of wood ash. Then the dry components are carefully diluted in water at room temperature. Under each bush, it is necessary to pour about 0.5 liters of such fertilizer.
You can also irrigate with the addition of manure or green grass mass. Any of these components must be initially infused in a barrel, and then diluted with 1 liter of infusion in 10 liters of water. 0.5 l of fertilizer is also poured under each bush.
As the plants grow, they will need support and a garter - otherwise they will tend to the ground and the stems may be damaged. It is better to perform a garter a week after planting the plants in open ground or a greenhouse.
Tomato "Andromeda" is exposed to late blight, therefore, it needs treatment and prevention. The disease belongs to the fungal family, it enters the plant in the form of spores. Carriers of late blight can winter in foliage, tops, stems. The disease appears on tomatoes from July to August.
To combat a fungal disease, it is necessary to make a solution based on salt and garlic.These components are taken in equal parts - the result should be a glass of the mixture. This mixture is diluted in 10 liters of water.
There are a number of ways to help get rid of the pest. These include ash, iodine, kefir, copper piercing, tinder fungus.
As a preventive measure, you can take the following measures:
- avoid neighborhood with cucumbers, carrots and beets;
- rows should not be made too thick;
- for watering it is better to choose early morning or late evening;
- during watering, you can not wet the fruits themselves;
- in wet weather conditions, limit yourself to loosening the row-spacings, watering is not carried out at this time;
- Immunity is strengthened by the introduction of phosphorus and potassium as a top dressing.
Tomato 'Andromeda' is tasty, early and cold weather resistant. Tomatoes can be plucked with whole brushes. This variety shows resistance to diseases, but it is defenseless against late blight.
The root system is not sufficiently developed for the plant to be able to fully provide itself and the fruits with the required amount of trace elements. For this type of tomato, top dressing is highly desirable.
