Tomato "Sweet Cherry": variety characteristics and cultivation

Sweet Cherry tomato: variety characteristics and cultivation

Sweet Cherry tomato variety is quite popular due to its positive qualities and the ability to harvest at home. The characteristics of this variety, cultivation features will be discussed in this article.

Peculiarities

Sweet Cherry tomatoes are a nightshade plant. This is an indeterminate hybrid, strong bushes of which reach a height of about two meters. They bear fruit profusely throughout the season. It is famous for its resistance to temperature extremes, which allows cultivation in different regions. The disadvantages include relatively small fruiting in comparison with other cherry varieties.

Since the variety is not standard, that is, it does not stop its growth on its own, garters and pinching cannot be avoided. The peculiarity of "Svit" is that it can be grown not only in open ground, but also in pots on balconies or verandas. In addition, this tomato is famous for its very fast ripening. After sowing the seeds, you can prepare to harvest after about 70-80 days.

The fruits of Sweet Cherry F1 tomatoes, which appeared on the bush, resemble a large bunch of grapes. About 50 tomatoes ripen on each brush, which never crumble. Moreover, the crop is almost always harvested with brushes; tomatoes do not crumble when ripe.

The variety is well stored, which allows, if necessary, the removal of an immature crop.

Description

Brown, yellow and orange tomatoes "Sweet Cherry" with elastic skin, but tender flesh, have a pleasant sweetish taste. The sugar content in one tomato reaches 12%. Due to the sweet taste and tall bush, the variety was popularly called "Candy Tree". The pulp is tender, but dense, with a small number of seeds. In addition, the appearance of cracks is not characteristic of the fruits, which is due to their low weight and size (the fruits weigh about 20 grams).

Advantages such as elastic skin and dense pulp, represented by small round balls resembling berries, make it easy and without risk of deformation to stack them, for example, for preservation in any jar. "Sweet Cherry" due to its taste qualities are ideal for making salads and juice.

How to plant?

Despite the fact that the variety has some immunity to cold weather and diseases, tomatoes need to be grown in seedlings, after which it is allowed to land in the place you need. The most favorable time for planting seedlings is March. However, if you do not have a greenhouse, and you plan to plant seedlings immediately outside, then the seeds must be sown about three weeks later before the intended planting in the garden.

In order to avoid diseases of the bush in the future, before sowing, it is recommended to soak them in a 1% solution of potassium permanganate for 15 minutes, then rinse with water and sow in the prepared soil. Soil preparation involves cleaning from harmful substances. There are different ways to do this depending on the region. If climatic conditions allow, then it is enough to take it outside so that it freezes. If there is a positive temperature outside the window, then you can send it to a red-hot oven and heat it up.

Having processed the earth in an appropriate way, it is necessary to moisten it well, after which we place the seeds in the soil, leaving a distance of 1 centimeter between them. After planting, we create a greenhouse effect by covering the container with a film. In order for the seeds to sprout faster, they need light and heat: under the film, the temperature should be about +25 degrees. To do this, it is recommended to place a box with seedlings near the window, which is not recommended to be opened in the early days. If there is not enough natural light, then lamps are installed.

After the appearance of the first shoots, the film must be removed in order to protect the young shoots from suppuration. Now, for rapid growth, the plant needs, first of all, constant light, but, of course, it is also necessary to provide heat: the temperature is desirable not lower than +22.

Water as it dries, avoiding overflowing or underfilling. When the plant reaches a height of 5 to 15 centimeters, it can be transplanted into the garden. The landing time depends on the weather conditions. When it is quite warm outside, and the soil is warm - abundantly climbing weeds speak of warm soil - then five-centimeter seedlings can be planted. Well, if the spring turned out to be rather cold, then it is better to let the tomatoes get stronger even on the windowsill. There are times when the weather throws a surprise, because of which the planting of seedlings becomes unacceptable, as it will lead to the death of the plant.

In such cases, you need to plant the tomatoes in different containers and keep them indoors until the onset of heat. When it comes, for acclimatization, it is advisable to take the seedlings out several times before planting.

How to grow?

Sweet Cherry tomato is a rather unpretentious plant, but its own method of growing is suitable for different regions. In the northern regions, it is necessary to plant seedlings in a greenhouse, otherwise they may freeze. If the greenhouse is not ventilated, then the appearance of fungal diseases of the bush is possible. From the greenhouse to the street, the plant can be planted no earlier than May. Planting in open soil is allowed only in the southern or eastern regions, where the highest yield of the variety is noted.

The soil in which the seedlings will be planted must be dug up and loosened, which disrupts the growth of the weed and prevents the appearance of fungal diseases in the bush. It is desirable to fertilize poor soil with minerals.

When the soil is enriched and cultivated, you can make a recess in the ground, into which we insert the seedlings, water it and sprinkle it with earth. During transplantation between plants, as well as between rows, we leave about one meter of space, the lack of which will further complicate the growth of tomatoes and their care. Remember that due to the rapid and active growth of the bush, a garter will soon be needed. An elongated bush will tell you about its need.

In addition, do not forget that the correct formation of the bush can also favorably affect the crop. Experienced gardeners advise pinching the plant in 1-2 stems. After the first inflorescence, one stepson must be left, which will form the second stem. The rest of the shoots will be useless, so to save tomato strength, they need to be cut off.

Watering should be regular, but moderate (about once every three days). Remember that between them the earth must have time to dry out, otherwise numerous fungal diseases can destroy the bush. If diseases could not be avoided, then in the initial stage one can confine oneself to an infusion of ash or hot pepper.

yield

As noted above, the highest yield of the variety is observed in the southern and eastern regions. Although, thanks to the endurance of the variety, residents of the North-West can also boast of a good harvest, for example, in the Leningrad Region, where dampness is characteristic and climatic conditions are not stable. With proper care, the variety has a high yield: more than 4 kilograms can be harvested from one bush per season.

Reviews

Reviews about the Sweet Cherry tomato variety are mixed. Some note low yields when occupying a large area, late ripening and unsweetened taste of tomatoes. Others, on the contrary, talk about early ripening and good taste of tomatoes. But everyone agrees that the bushes do not get sick, the tomatoes do not crack, and they keep their shape well when canned.
