Porridges are an integral part of our diet. They are used as dietary dishes and in the children's menu, as well as simply to maintain a proper, balanced diet.
One of the most popular cereals is based on wheat groats. This is an affordable and common product that we use quite often. But we don’t even think about the benefits that it brings to our body.
Beneficial features
Wheat groats are a traditional component of Russian cuisine. In ancient Russia, porridge cooked in the oven was the main dish on the table, whether it was weekdays or a special occasion.
Wheat groats are obtained from wheat grains, subjecting them to crushing and grinding. This manufacturing process allows you to save all the useful substances in the product to the maximum.
There are coarse, medium and fine grains. Especially valuable and most useful is the product of coarse grinding, not purified from germs and shells.

- Vitamin H involved in the metabolism of carbohydrates and the release of energy.
Of the minerals in wheat, the following prevail:
- copper in the amount of 500 mg - helps the synthesis of hemoglobin from iron;
- potassium - 300 mg - strengthens muscle tissue;
- calcium, phosphorus - 250 mg each - is necessary for the strength of bones and teeth;
- magnesium and silicon - help the absorption of calcium;
- chlorine - enhances the secretion of gastric juice, restoring appetite and improves digestion;
- sulfur - needed for the regeneration of connective tissue;
- zinc, manganese - strengthen cartilage and bones.
In addition, cereals contain sodium, iron, aluminum, boron, strontium and vanadium. Tin, zirconium, nickel, titanium, molybdenum are present in mini-doses. Traces of iodine, cobalt and selenium were found.
The bulk of grains are carbohydrates. They account for just over 62%. That is why wheat porridge is quite a nutritious and energetically valuable product. Proteins account for 12 g, fats make up only 1.5 g.
The product also carries nucleic acids, starch. It strengthens the immune system and helps to eliminate edema. And the biotin in its composition helps to relieve muscle stiffness.

It should be noted that the well-known semolina is also a derivative of wheat grain. It is obtained by its fine grinding.
If we compare wheat groats with other types of grains, then, of course, it is slightly inferior in quality to buckwheat and oatmeal. But if we consider it separately, then it is a valuable food product that brings quite a lot of benefits to the body. Barley and millet porridge can be put on a par with it in composition and properties.
In the matter of choosing cereals, pay attention to its appearance. It is important that the grains are homogeneous, and the total mass does not contain impurities, sticky grains.

Wheat groats are stored in a cool, dry place, it is better to pour it into a tightly closed container.
Rinse wheat thoroughly before cooking. You can cook it in water or broth, meat and vegetable. Water can be diluted with half milk. The finished dish is seasoned with butter and sugar, jam, honey and fruits, berries, nuts and dried fruits.

Wheat groats are a suitable product for weight loss. This is due to several of its properties.
- First, wheat grain is considered low in calories. There are 300 kcal per 100 g. But after cooking, its calorie content decreases. If porridge is cooked in water, then the number of calories is 105 kcal, if in milk, then 136 kcal.
- Secondly, the product is able to speed up the metabolism. It contains dietary fiber in the form of fiber, which stimulates intestinal motility and contributes to its regular cleansing.
Complex carbohydrates in the composition of wheat porridge cause rapid saturation for a long period. They are not deposited in fatty layers, but are used for energy synthesis.
Another important component of wheat is choline. It takes part in the metabolism of fats and breaks down existing fat deposits.
As a dietary dish, wheat porridge is cooked in water without the addition of sugar, salt and butter. It is combined with vegetables and fruits, lean meat. When losing weight, it is allowed to include low-calorie yogurt or kefir in the diet along with porridge.

To whom is the product contraindicated?
Despite all the positive qualities of the product, wheat porridge, under certain conditions, can harm the body. There are contraindications, according to which this cereal should not be included in the menu:
- low acidity of the stomach;
- condition after surgery;
- celiac disease, that is, an allergy to gluten, in this case, porridge can cause intestinal inflammation;
- flatulence.
Oversaturation with this product leads to constipation and weight gain.
