Plum "Etude": variety characteristics and growing tips
Among the large number of varieties of plums, the unpretentious variety "Etude" stands out. It was created by crossing the "Volga Beauty" and "Eurasia-21". Plum perfectly passed all tests for compliance with State Standards. In 1985, this variety was included in the State Register of Russia.
Plum "Etude" was highly appreciated by gardeners. Juicy berries are pleasant to the taste, and fresh fruits can be stored for a long time without losing their characteristics. This article will tell about the features of this variety and the nuances of its cultivation.
Description
This variety of plums is popular in European and southern regions of the country. It grows especially well in the black earth. It is also grown in Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Lithuania, Belarus and Moldova. Plum was to the taste of both professional breeders and amateur gardeners. This type of plum trees grows well in any conditions, reveals its taste and gives excellent yields.
According to gardeners, the taste of Etude fruits is sweet with a pleasant sourness. On a scale of tasters out of five possible points, he received 4.3. The bone has an elongated shape. Gardeners say that in ripe fruits, it separates very well from the pulp. This characteristic of the variety is actively used to create seedless jam.
It must be said that such a plum contains from 1.9 to 1.96 percent of titratable substances. Dry matter takes from 15 to 15.4 percent. Sugar is from 7 to 7.1 percent (during warm summers it can reach 11.9%).P-active catechins in fruits are from 142 to 145 percent, and vitamin C is from 14 to 15 mg per 100 g of crop.
Plum "Etude" grows to almost 2 meters. The gray-brown bark is covered with a light gray coating. There are few lentils on plum branches, the shoots are brown. They are usually even, differ in considerable width. Slightly wrinkled, large purple leaves of "Etude" have an elongated shape. The leaf is slightly curved, with tubercles at the edges. The top of the leaves directed upwards has a transition to the spout, and at the beginning the leaf has an ovoid shape.
The petiole is of medium length and width. The glands are large and round in shape. They are usually one on each sheet, rarely two. Flowers "Etude" are very large. They do not come into contact with each other, without interfering with the normal development of the fetus. The pistils are located just above the anthers.
The large fruits of the Etude plum are egg-shaped and lilac-burgundy in color. On top of the skin of the fruit, a thick wax coating is visible, which is also felt during tactile contact with the berry. The rind of plums is quite thick. Emerald juicy flesh is very fleshy. As already mentioned, the taste of the fruit is sweet, a subtle sourness gives it a special piquancy. If the summer is warm, then the fruits are saturated with glucose and become even sweeter.
The variety is characterized by precocity. The first crop is harvested already in the 4th year after planting seedlings. They ripen in a very short period.
The tree blooms in late spring. The tree itself is barren. The most reliable pollinator of agricultural technology is called the Zarechnaya early plum variety. It is near him that "Etude" begins to actively bear fruit every year. The yield of plum "Etude" is considered very high.From one tree you can collect up to 20 kilograms of juicy and quite tasty fruits.
The plum of the described variety should be stored in cold rooms or vegetable stores. The shelf life of the collected berries is up to 3 months. This variety tolerates transportation well, so it can be safely transported over long distances. It will not deteriorate, will not break on the road, it will retain its presentation and taste.
How to plant?
The variety is not capricious and does not require special care. The tree perfectly tolerates low or high temperatures. It also has resistance to fungal infections and insect pest attacks.
Seedlings are transplanted in the fall, when the growing season comes to an end. The most suitable soils for planting the Etude plum variety are considered to be excellent oxygen-permeable and moist loams. The earth must have a neutral acid-base balance. Usually this variety of plums feels good after planting and easily takes root on the land.
For planting seedlings, it is recommended to choose the southern areas of the cottage. Small mounds and slopes will do. The most flat terrain in the territory is even better suited for landing.
Before proceeding directly to planting trees, prepare the site and soil. They clean the earth of debris, roots, dry grass and withered foliage. The distance from other seedlings to the plum should be at least three meters.
At the intended point, a hole is prepared with dimensions of 700x500x600 mm. Then nitrophoska and humus are introduced into the topsoil. Everything is thoroughly mixed. A kind of hill is formed from the finished mixture. Proportionality must be observed - its volume should not be more than two-thirds of the total depth of the pit.If the roots of the tree are not closed, they make a clay "chatter" and immerse the entire root system of the seedling into it for 60-80 minutes.
Work order:
- exactly in the middle of the hillock, a small wooden post is driven in from the mixture;
- a tree is planted near a pole;
- the root system of the tree is carefully buried in the prepared mixture;
- the seedling is gently shaken so that the soil is evenly distributed between the roots;
- the soil near the planted tree is slightly trampled down, the entire volume of the hole is filled with earth;
- the tree is thoroughly watered and the soil around it is once again rammed.
If there are underground rivers in the selected area that flow close to the soil surface, a 0.5-meter additional layer of soil is built up before planting.
With further care, each new season they dig up the ground around the planting. Garbage and last year's leaves near the tree are removed. Root sprouts, grass and weeds fall out. When digging up the earth near a low tree, a shovel is inserted only five to ten centimeters. Mulching is also done. To do this, use humus, fallen needles, swamp peat, mowed dry field grass or hay, dried sawdust, compost.
Care
The tree requires regular watering. Once or twice every seven days is usually sufficient. If it is very hot outside, the number of waterings is increased up to 3 times. For each watering, the drain must “drink” at least ten liters of water. To regulate the frequency of irrigation of plum trees, weather conditions should also be taken into account. In the rainy season, it is not worth watering the ground around the plums too often.
In spring and autumn, the crown is pruned. Those branches that are already incorrectly located and thickened the crown are eliminated.If there are damaged, broken or dried branches, they are cut along with them. The pruning sites are disinfected with a garden broth.
If the plum is not subject to fungal infections and attack by pests, it is not additionally treated with any chemicals. In the first year, the tree does not require fertilizer. For the 2nd year, top dressing with humus is necessary under the condition of insufficient growth and slow development.
The plum tree is a fruit-bearing tree, therefore, in order to maintain strength after fruit ripening, it must receive appropriate feeding. If the tree does not eat enough nitrogen and potassium, this can adversely affect the general condition of the fruit seedling. In this case, a brown strip forms along the edge of the leaves, a hidden mosaic appears.
Yields may also decrease. Due to the lack of lime, cracking of the plums themselves can occur, but its excess can lead to chlorosis.
Usually, they begin to regularly feed a tree in the 3rd year after planting seedlings. In the spring, the following top dressing is carried out: one hundred grams of wood ash is added to eight kilograms of humus. The mixture is stirred and added to the near-stem circle of each tree.
During the growing season, home culture is maintained by adding mineral fertilizers, which are applied twice. Once this is done in the spring, before the appearance of color, the second - after the fruit set.
After the crop is harvested, the tree will need a phosphorus-potassium supplement. These fertilizers are convenient to add during the autumn digging. They are applied to the top layer of the soil. The proportion is 120 g per 1 square meter. Also, lime must be applied every three years (50 g per square meter of land).
Plum "Etude" has good resistance to diseases and pests. Diseases such as perforated spotting, bushiness, curlyness do not affect her. The incidence of hawthorn, fruit mites, aphids and golden tail is also not observed. Such plum trees do not require periodic preventive treatments with chemicals. Winter hardiness and frost resistance of fruit trees of this variety are also on top.
Given all of the above, we can conclude that the Etude variety is unpretentious, resistant to adverse conditions, and has excellent characteristics. It is suitable for professional cultivation by breeders, and for decorating the plots of ordinary gardeners. In any case, the trees delight with a rich tasty harvest.
