What helps a decoction of dill and how to use it correctly?

Dill has long been a familiar guest in our kitchen. We often use this plant as a condiment or food additive to many delicious dishes. At the same time, not everyone knows about the healing properties of this plant.

Composition and calories

Despite the fact that dill is most often found on the shelves of grocery stores in fresh or dried form, this plant has long been considered medicinal. In folk medicine, you can find many different recipes in which dill is one of the most important ingredients. In this case, plant seeds, its stems, leaves, sometimes even rhizomes can be used.

However, dill decoctions are considered the most popular, in which almost all the constituent parts of this plant are used. This is due to the fact that this method of preparing dill allows you to save all its valuable qualities, practically without destroying the unique composition.

It is authentically known that a bunch of dill contains many useful components.

  • Vitamin A in the form of retinol. This substance is very useful for our body, as it is required for the normal functioning of the organs of vision, provides the functions of the immune system, and protects against most diseases of the skin and hair.
  • Beta carotene. It is often called provitamin A due to the fact that, under certain conditions, our body is able to synthesize normal vitamin A from it. This component is very rarely found in everyday foods, although carrots contain quite a large amount of beta-carotene, where it was first discovered. . Such a substance is a powerful antioxidant, regulates metabolism, prevents most chronic and even oncological diseases.
  • Vitamin B complex. The most valuable among them are riboflavin, thiamine and folic acid. All of them are indispensable for the human body. Deficiency of vitamins of this group leads to the rapid development of a weakened immune system, deterioration of the central nervous system, as well as a weakening of the overall muscle tone.
  • Vitamin C. It is a source of health and strong immunity known to each of us. It is used to stimulate almost all the defense mechanisms of our body.
  • Vitamin E. It is an indispensable component of any drug that is used to strengthen hair, treat inflammatory skin diseases.
  • Lots of micronutrients. Among them you can find potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, cobalt and many others. Iron is necessary for normal hemoglobin levels, potassium strengthens the heart muscle, and magnesium is necessary for the normal functioning of the nervous system and skeletal muscles.
  • Dill also contains a high concentration of essential amino acids and unsaturated fatty acids, such as omega-6. Moreover, all of them are in a form that allows our body to absorb them as quickly as possible.

Dill has huge health benefits, while it practically does not harm the figure. For example, 100 g of the green part of a fresh bunch contains only 40 kcal. Most of all in this product are carbohydrates - 6.3 g, proteins - 2.5 g and fats - 0.5 g.

It is also worth noting that the composition and calorie content of dill may vary depending on which part of it is used. However, the preparation of a decoction allows you to save almost all the unique components of this plant.

Beneficial features

Despite the fact that dill has been used by mankind for quite a long time, not everything is known to us about its healing properties. This unusual plant has a very broad effect on the body, favorably influencing many biochemical processes occurring in it.

Below is just a small list of the medicinal qualities of dill and the decoction prepared from it.

  • Contributes to the normalization of processes occurring in all parts of the digestive tract. In particular, dill helps to balance the acidity of the stomach, helps to remove excess gas bubbles in the small and large intestines. This is an excellent remedy for adult bloating.
  • Reduces the effect of free radicals on the body. This helps prevent the development of many cancers, and also slows down the aging process of cells.
  • Minimizes the concentration of specific inflammation moderator cells. Thus, a decoction of dill helps to quickly eliminate the main unpleasant signs of the inflammatory process: redness, swelling, pain, fever.
  • The usefulness of this herb has also been proven in many diseases of the bronchi and lungs. Dill stimulates the work of the villi on the surface of the bronchi, as well as the work of mucociliary clearance. This action of dill helps the body quickly liquefy and remove even very thick sputum.
  • Stimulates the formation of bile in the liver, and also facilitates its release by the gallbladder. This has a positive effect on the processes of food processing in the duodenum and helps prevent most diseases associated with bile stasis.
  • Calms the central nervous system. A decoction of dill before going to bed helps to fall asleep quickly and soundly, and in case of stress, it significantly reduces emotional stress.
  • Stimulates the filtering and excretory ability of the kidneys. Increasing the daily volume of urine is also useful in the presence of small stones in the urinary tract with cystitis or urethritis, since dill decoction helps to quickly eliminate the discomfort caused by inflammatory processes.
  • Dill also promotes wound healing. It activates the natural processes of regeneration, destroys some pathological microorganisms.
  • Helps to eliminate spasms of almost all smooth muscle fibers of the body. This allows you to get rid of pain in most conditions accompanied by spasms, for example, intestinal colic, cystitis, painful menstruation in women, stomach cramps due to gas formation.
  • Dill has a mild and rather pronounced laxative effect. It tidies up intestinal motility and thus easily relieves constipation.
  • A decoction of dill stimulates the work of the endocrine and exocrine systems of a person. Sweat glands more actively remove all harmful substances from the body, and in lactating women, lactation and even the quality of breast milk are significantly improved.

Contraindications and side effects

The medicinal qualities of dill and a decoction of this herb are considered a complete medicine. Of course, it can be useful in most cases, but it should not be abused. If used incorrectly, dill can be harmful to health. It should not be used in the cases described below.

  • With established hypotension. A decoction of dill can significantly reduce pressure and thereby provoke the development of a very dangerous condition in a patient.
  • If there is an individual food intolerance to dill or similar plants.
  • Do not drink dill in early pregnancy. A decoction can provoke increased intestinal motility, increase the tone of the smooth muscles of the uterus and thereby lead to miscarriage.
  • Excessive use of such a remedy can cause poisoning and aggravate certain pathological conditions. It is worth giving up dill if there is any disease that significantly suppresses the excretory functions of the liver and kidneys.

Cooking rules

In order for the decoction of dill to be as effective as possible, it must be properly brewed. You should carefully select fresh or dried grass, try to follow all the proportions and recommendations that are mentioned in the recipes. There are several ways to prepare dill tea, and each of them has its own advantages.

The easiest way to brew dill: boil a few glasses of water, throw 2-3 sprigs of dry dill there, reduce the heat and boil under the lid for at least 20 minutes, then strain with gauze or a tight strainer and cool.

For children, it is better to prepare the simplest flock of seeds, which will help normalize bowel function and strengthen immunity.Seeds should be as clean as possible, dry, not stale and without mold. It is enough to pour one teaspoon of raw materials with one glass of hot water, you can even take boiling water, and insist for several hours under the lid. Then you should strain through cheesecloth, squeeze out the seeds.

Even a small child can drink such dill infusion, as it has a very mild effect and helps fight colic.

For adults, a more concentrated decoction is suitable, especially if you want to get rid of cystitis. To do this, grind a few teaspoons of dill seeds into flour using a coffee grinder. The resulting "brewing" should be poured into a container - preferably in a thermos - and pour two cups of boiling water. It is necessary to insist at least 12 hours and take in portions for 7 days.

Subtleties of use

A decoction of dill is often recommended for pregnant women. It can indeed be especially useful in some cases.

For example, it is used for severe toxicosis, which is accompanied by nausea, swelling, general weakness and irritability. In this case, dill helps to quickly remove all harmful substances from the body, accelerates the removal of excess fluid, normalizes the functioning of the nervous system and restores hormonal balance. It is especially important that this remedy reduces the load on the kidneys, which are primarily affected by this condition of a pregnant woman, and also lowers blood pressure.

Also, an indication for the use of dill water for a pregnant woman can be severe constipation, provoked by impaired intestinal motility as a result of the growth of the uterine body, beriberi, and a lack of trace elements in the diet. Nevertheless, one should not forget that the abuse of this remedy can seriously harm, especially in the early stages of pregnancy . Of course, it is best to consult a doctor, but small portions of a light decoction most often do not pose any threat.

It is best to prepare a decoction based on crushed dill seeds, taking no more than 50-100 mg per day, dividing this dose into several doses. Such treatment can last from 2 to 3 weeks.

If it is necessary to treat with a decoction of an infant, for example, in case of intestinal colic, accumulation of gases, bloating or constipation, then an extremely weak medicine should be prepared. To do this, no more than half a tablespoon of very small dry dill seeds should be placed in a glass and pour boiling water. Instead of boiling, you need to insist 20 minutes in a water bath. After that, the broth should be filtered, cooled, diluted with plain water for the baby and watered from a bottle.
