Rules for the use of the drug "Thiovit Jet" for grapes
The use of chemicals in the fight against pests and diseases of grapes is, of course, an extreme measure. But it often happens that the usual measures, such as: pruning, removing exfoliated bark, thinning the clusters, removing shoots, frequent cleaning of dry leaves and fallen berries do not bring results. As a result, the bush is affected. Just in this case, pollination with potent substances is relevant.
Preparations for the treatment of grapes can be divided into two groups: fungicides and insecticides. The latter are good in pest control, and the action of fungicides (from the Latin “fungus” - fungus and “caedo” - kill) is aimed at destroying pathogenic flora that impedes the normal growth and development of the plant.
Features of the action of fungicides and the drug "Thiovit Jet"
What happens when fungicides are used?
- the respiratory function of fungi is impaired;
- fungal cell nuclei lose their ability to divide (systemic fungicides);
- the formation of nucleic acids in the cells of the fungus is blocked;
- at the cellular level, ergosterol ceases to be produced, due to which the fungal colony dies completely.
One of the relatively new drugs of the fungicidal group can be called the inorganic fungicide "Thiovit Jet". In addition to the basic properties of fungicides, this medicinal product for plants has the properties of acaricides, that is, it simultaneously fights parasites (mites).The drug is made on the basis of sulfur (1 kg of the product contains 800 g of sulfur), has the form of granules that dissolve in water.
The resulting solution fits well on the leaves and, in dry and sunny weather, retains its healing properties for up to 10 days. Thiovit Jet is a contact action fungicide. It does not penetrate into the cells of the plant, but works on its surface. A thin film of this preparation envelops the affected areas of fruits and leaves, causing the death of fungal invasions and some types of mites.
What time of the year should you spray?
The intensive period of development of fungal diseases is the end of spring or the beginning of summer. It is at this time that the air temperature rises to 25-29 Cº, and the humidity reaches 70-80%. Under such conditions, the toxicity of sulfur, the main component of Thiovit Jet, increases. Accordingly, the first spraying is carried out in late May - early June. The effectiveness of the treatment will be higher if the agent is applied directly to the affected areas of the leaves.
At a temperature of +18 Cº, oidium spores under the influence of sulfur die after 26-30 hours, at +19 Cº - after a day, at + 25-29 Cº - after 4-7 hours. Particular attention should be paid to clusters and leaves growing in the shade. This is where the infection starts. The next spraying is carried out in the fall, in late September - early October.
Instructions for use
Before processing grape bushes, decide what kind of damage you need to work with. The dosage of the pure drug in solution depends on this. To get rid of oidium, for example, you need to dilute 80 g per 10 liters of water, to combat grape mites - 40 g, and to get rid of powdery mildew - 50 g per the same volume of water.Full dosage instructions are listed on the back of the drug package.
To obtain a homogeneous solution of "Thiovit Jet", it is necessary to dissolve the granules first in a small amount of water, and then, stirring constantly, add water to the desired volume. It is necessary to apply the resulting emulsion immediately, since it is impossible to store the drug in a diluted form.
Do not use "Thiovit Jet" within 14 days after treating the bushes with products containing any oils. Oil-containing products should not be used for 2 weeks after spraying the Thiovit Jet vineyard. For one medium-sized bush, from 2 liters to 3 liters of solution are consumed, for a larger bush - 5 liters. Vineyards are sprayed in the morning or in the evening when there are calm days. Leaves, stems and fruits of the plant must be dry.
Of course, it is possible to spray with dew, but only when the air is warmed up no higher than +22 Cº, otherwise the leaves will get burned. Also, you can not process the bushes in the heat and during the flowering period.
It should be remembered that many fungal diseases are focal in nature. Therefore, if the grape bushes were affected last year, you should not wait for new outbreaks of the disease this year, but carry out the processing according to the plan - in spring and autumn.
Precautionary measures
"Thiovit Jet" is a chemical preparation, therefore it is not allowed to use it without chemical protection. All open areas of the body must be covered. It is recommended to work in rubber boots, overalls, rubber gloves and a respirator.
This substance is considered non-toxic and belongs to hazard class 3, but it should be remembered that if a sulfur-containing substance gets on the skin of the hands and face, it can cause both mild allergic reactions and eczema, and if it enters the respiratory system, irritation of the mucous membrane and pulmonary edema . Therefore, special care should be taken when working with Thiovit Jet. But if contact with a certain amount of the substance nevertheless occurred, you should quickly wash the affected area of \u200b\u200bthe skin with running water.
When preparing the treatment solution, it must not be mixed with other chemicals in order to avoid an uncontrolled chemical reaction. Also, before work, you should check the cleanliness of the containers (tanks and pipes) of the sprayer to make sure that there are no traces of previous substances left in them. Do not spray the solution in the presence of children, animals, poultry. The solution remaining after use must not be drained into natural reservoirs. If the drug accidentally scattered on the ground, it is necessary to collect it, and treat the piece of land with a solution of soda ash and dig it up.
In the process of spraying, it is not recommended to allow the drug to drain into the ground in order to prevent environmental pollution. Otherwise, the affected areas of the soil should be treated with soda ash dissolved in water and dug up.
Benefits of Thiovit Jet
The drug is often used by summer residents due to obvious advantages:
- the drug is not phytotoxic, so the berries can be eaten a day after treatment;
- the substance dissolves well in water, forming a light homogeneous mixture;
- solution for work is prepared quickly and easily;
- after spraying, the agent is well kept on the leaves, does not slip;
- the drug is universal (it can be used not only for the treatment of grapes, but also for the treatment of other types of plants - apple trees, pears, zucchini, cucumbers);
- The shelf life of the packaging of this chemical agent is quite long - up to 3 years.
- "Thiovit Jet" is not flammable.
The only disadvantages of the remedy noted by gardeners in the reviews:
- has a strong smell of sulfur;
- quickly washed away by rain.
