A variety of types of supports for grapes
Growing a grape culture is impossible without the use of special racks. Without auxiliary support, the plant becomes helpless, begins to develop poorly. Fortunately, the variety of types of supports for grapes is not limited to one or two variations, and choosing the right option is not difficult.
Purpose
In the wild, the vine grows as it pleases. Most often, the liana envelops trees or rests on other vertical structures available to it, and often spreads its branches on the ground. But such an arrangement does not contribute to abundant fruiting, and the berries of such plants do not differ in excellent taste.
In conditions where it is necessary to achieve maximum yield, a special rack for climbing plants is indispensable. This is the most efficient and cost effective method of grapevine distribution. A durable and reliable frame has all the important characteristics to ensure the normal growth and development of a climbing bush.
Thanks to support:
- shoots are evenly distributed over the holder, without interfering with each other;
- the sun's rays capture the entire bush;
- create optimal conditions for pollination of flowers;
- leaves more actively produce organic substances, which affects the increase in crop yields;
- clusters ripen faster;
- the vine does not reach the ground, which means that the clusters lying on the ground do not rot;
- the taste characteristics of ripe fruits are improved;
- the bush is ventilated from different sides, due to which the risk of developing fungal diseases is reduced;
- easier to care for the vine and harvest;
- seating area is saved.
Support model
The type of support for a vine bush is selected based on the place of its application, the variety of grapes allocated to the garden gadget of the budget, and a number of other equally important factors.
By design, all possible tapestries are divided into three types:
- single-plane;
- two-plane;
- decorative.
Depending on the chosen model, the support for grapes can hold one or several bushes at the same time.
If the supports are arranged in a row, you need to remember an important rule - One crop variety should be planted in one row. It is very difficult to provide proper care for plants with different care requirements, because each variety has its own nuances when growing.
When placing tapestries, one should also not forget about the right direction. You need to focus on the south side. Only with such a layout will sunlight have access to all branches of the plant. If the choice is made in favor of decorative supports, then such frames will be able to additionally decorate a garden plot in the country.
Single Plane Arrangement
A design of this type is considered the simplest and most understandable for self-production, even by inexperienced growers. In fact, a single-plane holder is two or more pillars with a certain number of horizontal rows of metal wire.If the landing site is located near a residential building or in a protected area, in this case, copper wire can be used, which will become not only a reliable support for the culture, but also a source of copper, which has a detrimental effect on the fungal microflora that is harmful to any plant.
For young vines, ornamental vines, and cultivars that form small bushes, a one-planar design is the best option.
Such a support for grapes has several varieties.
- With a stretch strong wire.
- With a canopy. An L-shaped cross member extends from the upper part of the vertical support, to which several wires are also attached.
- T-shaped. The height of such a support is no more than 1.5 m. The wire in this model of the support is fixed to both sides of it - both to the vertical and to the horizontal part. Thanks to this design, the vine can not be suspended, because, staying between the rows of wire, it will be able to cling to them on its own.
- frame for young plants from three years. The stem is mounted on supports, and the grape growth is placed on rows of horizontally stretched wire specially designated for it.
Two-plane grape stand
Often used by experienced growers who have large plantations of succulent crops under their care.
Supports with two planes are effortlessly able to withstand a massive vine, and that, in turn, gets the opportunity to branch and grow freely. This type of rack also has several design options.
- Direct. Visually, these are two planes placed parallel to each other.
- V-shaped. Models with two planes that have an inward slope.
- Y-shaped. Option with one support, which diverges into two at an angle of 45-60 degrees relative to each other.
Decorative tapestries
These designs are suitable for those varieties of vines that do not need to be sheltered from the cold in winter, and are represented by a wide variety of forms: arches, arbors, bowls, frames. Original solutions also appear in the form of semi-arches, pergolas, awnings. However, for some structures, a crate is needed for their more reliable operation. A grid is also sometimes used, visually it makes the design more attractive. Some craftsmen make supports from wood. The arch with elements of wooden lamellas laid in a triangle, “herringbone” looks impressive.
You can make decorative metal supports. The easiest way is to install several poles and a stretched grate between them. However, it is easier and much faster to craft from wood. The disadvantage of the latter material is rapid wear, therefore, in order to extend the service life, wooden products in places in contact with the ground are treated with special agents that protect the surface from decay, or are installed on concrete bases.
With the help of decorative trellises, they not only visually decorate the site, but also make a shadow in the right places.
materials
The holder for the grape support can be made from different materials, there are no restrictions on the choice of raw materials for production. On a large scale, racks are made:
- from plastic pipes;
- profile pipe;
- asbestos cement;
- metal pipes;
- galvanization;
- tree.
The safest and most environmentally friendly option is definitely wood. The only disadvantage of natural raw materials, and hence the support from it, is fragility, and after all, with good care, grapes grow for more than ten years.Therefore, if you want props for grapes made of natural wood, then it is better to use the most durable types of wood. These are oak, chestnut, ash and acacia.
Inelastic and fragile alder and linden, which are subject to decay processes, are completely unsuitable for the manufacture of supports.
Modern metal supports look extraordinary on the land plot. They last much longer than wooden ones, and the preparatory process for their installation is greatly facilitated.
Props for grapes made of metal are most often made from iron or galvanized pipes. Before installing structures from such raw materials, they are painted to prevent the appearance of traces of rust. Racks made of asbestos pipes and plastic poles are also popular with gardeners.
