How to get rid of white flies on Victoria?
Many gardeners have to deal with pests in Victoria. Most often, plants are destroyed by small white midges. Such a struggle is exhausting, because in a short period of time dangerous insects can ruin almost the entire crop, causing serious damage to berries and leaves.
Pest Features
White flies that often fly over victoria berries and leaves are called whiteflies. They belong to the Homoptera family. On their wings there is a dusty coating. These small insects feed on plant sap, which they consume in large quantities, which causes the plants to quickly die.
White midges are able to secrete a special liquid called "dew", on which, when settling on Victoria leaves, a fungus plaque forms. Such a dangerous coating does not allow the plant to fully breathe and interferes with full-fledged photosynthesis. The leaves become black in color, covered with a sticky layer of soot and gradually die off.
Folk ways of fighting
The harm from small flies on the plant can be significantly minimized if you see an emerging problem in time. Spraying with safe solutions will help save the crop and return the plant to normal life.
One of the most common methods is spraying with ordinary soapy water. To prepare it, you need to grate laundry soap and pour water in a ratio of 1: 6. When the soap is completely dissolved, you can start treating the affected areas.
Tincture of garlic helps to fight small midges, in addition, it is completely harmless to the leaves of the plant. To prepare the solution, you should peel and chop 300 grams of garlic, put it in a jar, pour hot water and close the lid. Such a composition should stand for a week in a dark place. The jar with the composition must be shaken every day. Then the resulting tincture is filtered and put in the refrigerator. Before you start spraying Victoria, you need to dilute the composition with water in proportions of 1: 100. Processing can be done every week until the pests are completely destroyed.
Chemicals
When insect infestation exceeds the permissible limits, one should move on to more radical methods using special chemical solutions. Among the drugs, such universal remedies have proven themselves well:
- "Karbafos";
- "Aktara";
- "Fufanon";
- Fury.
The effective insecticide "Fitoverm" has a wide spectrum of action. One of its key advantages is low toxicity. The drug can be applied four times a year, excluding the flowering time of Victoria. The solution is able to quickly and effectively destroy harmful insects.
Whiteflies are difficult opponents, because they can easily adapt to the action of different drugs.
You can get rid of them only with a complex alternation of folk methods and chemicals.
Do not forget about the importance of preventive treatments. Digging up the beds will also help in the difficult fight against pests: in open soil layers, white midges are not able to survive in the cold season.
