Apple tree "Solntsedar": a description of the fruits and the subtleties of planting

Apple tree Solntsedar: a description of the fruits and the subtleties of planting

The Solntsedar apple tree was bred for cultivation in the Urals, but it can also be successfully grown in the southern regions of our country. The fruits of this tree have an incomparable specific taste that is impossible to forget. According to its advantageous characteristics, this summer variety is not inferior to the best examples of European selection. Knowing the intricacies of planting and caring for a crop, you can get high and stable yields every year.

Variety features

"Solntsedar" is a summer crop that is resistant to frost, while it is characterized by high fruiting. An adult tree can reach 3-4 meters in height, has a rounded, dense and sufficient dense crown, which, as it ages, lowers its branches to the surface of the earth. The bark of the tree is red-brown, darker in young shoots. New branches are usually thin and flexible. The leaves are egg-shaped with pointed tips, they are distinguished by a rich green color and a shiny, shimmering blue, like a polished surface. They are dense, pubescent on the inside, decorated with small notches along the edges.

Unfortunately, one of the drawbacks is the self-infertility of this apple tree, which will require the gardener to plant in the immediate vicinity of varieties such as White Filling, Suislepskoye, and Wine. As a result of cross-pollination, flowers appear at the end of May. In spring, the white and pink buds of the plant are a delightful sight, literally completely covering the crown of the tree.

Fruits are the main advantage of culture, they differ in the following characteristics:

  • apples have a regular round or wide oval shape, occasionally supplemented by a barely noticeable edge;
  • the main background of the surface is pale, pale green with a bright pink blush when fully ripe;
  • the weight of individual fruits ranges from 100 to 150 grams;
  • the pulp of apples is white, juicy and tender, enclosed in a dry smooth peel;
  • the sweet taste is complemented by a slight sourness, which gives the fruit an original astringency.

Fully ripened apples in August, but can quickly crumble. Harvest is obtained from a tree of the seventh year and up to 25 years, the total life span of a tree is 35 years. From one apple tree, you can collect up to 100 kg of fruits, which are stored for about 60 days under standard storage conditions. Fruits are of value to humans, as they contain a large amount of fructose and ascorbic acid.

They can be used in different ways - fresh, baked, in the form of blanks.

Advantages and disadvantages

The description of this variety has a number of positive characteristics that distinguish it from other summer crops.

These include:

  • beautiful appearance and wonderful taste of fruits;
  • large yields, characterized by stability;
  • relatively compact dimensions of the tree;
  • easy care;
  • unpretentiousness when exposed to different weather conditions;
  • immunity to low temperatures (can withstand frosts up to 25 degrees);
  • early ripening of fruits;
  • preservation of shape and taste during transportation and storage.

Considering the shortcomings of the "Solntsedar", it should be noted:

  • susceptibility to diseases, scab and fungi;
  • crumbling during maturation;
  • self-infertility, as a result of which pollinating plants are required;
  • dense crown, which must be formed twice a year.

Reviews about the Solntsedar apple tree are quite contradictory. It is noted that with excellent taste and a plentiful harvest, the plant does not have a very good keeping quality. In fact, the fruits are able to retain their valuable qualities only for a period limited to one and a half months. Another problem is that ripe apples do not hold well on branches, and when falling, they are badly damaged, after which they quickly begin to rot, becoming unsuitable for eating.

Experienced farmers warn amateurs that this variety may not bear fruit every year. Sometimes there are breaks in the appearance of fruit buds for a year, which, of course, is very frustrating. Also, many complain that the apple tree gives small apples weighing no more than 100 grams.

As for frost resistance, it is true that the tree does indeed tolerate cold very well.

planting

Planting a tree has its own characteristics, and in this important matter, you should follow the advice of experienced farmers.

First you need to decide on the placement of the tree:

  • the place for the seedling should be chosen sunny, on a hill, so that the rays reach the crown of the plant around the entire circumference;
  • it is not recommended to plant in the lowlands, especially in wetlands where cold and high humidity can cause apple disease;
  • "Solntsedar" does not like drafts and strong winds;
  • deep soil water is suitable for planting.

The best time for planting is the end of March-mid-April, but the hole for the apple tree must be prepared in advance.If the soil is too clayey, humus and coarse sand are added to the ground, you can additionally mix a special agent for accelerated root formation or mineral complexes, depending on the fertility of the soil.

Work is carried out in the following order:

  • dig a hole with a depth of at least 70 centimeters, the earth from it is divided into two parts;
  • three buckets of water are poured into the moat until completely absorbed;
  • add peat, humus, sand and no more than 30 grams of "Superphosphate" to the pit, carefully stirring all the components with the bottom layer of the earth;
  • the seedling is preliminarily placed in water, and immediately before planting, the root system is dipped in a clay solution of a thick consistency;
  • when placed in a hole, the roots are evenly distributed throughout the entire space of the ditch;
  • you can use a support for a small seedling by tying it to a peg;
  • when lowered into the ground, the root neck should remain 3-4 centimeters above the surface;
  • in conclusion, the plant is watered abundantly, but the earth is not tamped too tightly.

If several apple trees are planted, a distance of 4-5 meters is kept between them due to the spreading of the trees.

If desired, mulching the near-stem zone is carried out.

Care

Features of care consist in the periodic pruning of the apple tree. If this is not done, then due to the intensive growth of branches and green mass, fruiting stops. Thinning is carried out in late autumn or early spring at the beginning of the active sap flow of the apple tree, and it is necessary to remove not only damaged and dry old branches, but also shorten young shoots. Other agrarian work is also necessary so that the plant brings a good harvest.

Top dressing of culture should be carried out up to 4 times per season. In spring, organic fertilizers and nitrogen supplements are required. After the appearance of flowers, mineral complexes containing phosphorus and potassium are used. Trace elements such as zinc, calcium and magnesium are also important for normal fruit set. However, it is worth remembering that fertilizers cannot be applied more than twice a month.

Diseases and pests, if left unchecked, can disrupt the normal growth and development of fruits. Basically, the apple tree is subject to fruit rot, powdery mildew and scab. To prevent diseases, the tree is treated with a solution of copper sulfate, Bordeaux liquid and other fungicides. To prevent insects from entering the plant, lime or a special garden paint is used, which, in addition to protecting against spider mites, aphids and caterpillars, protects the tree from sunburn and rodents.

The metal mesh helps prevent flocking birds from attacking the apple tree.

Watering is especially important for the plant for the first two years and is done once every 30 days in the amount of two buckets. The exception is hot weather. Watering should be around the entire perimeter of the root system. At the same time, weeds are removed and the soil is loosened. Mature trees do not cover for the winter. This procedure is carried out only with young, weak apple trees, as a rule, recently planted.

Due to the strong shedding, the fruits must be harvested very quickly. Gardeners begin to take even unripe apples, which will ripen within three days at normal room temperature. But it is not recommended to collect fruits that have fallen to the ground. Despite such disadvantages as susceptibility to diseases and a short shelf life, the Solntsedar apple tree remains one of the best summer varieties due to its unique taste and high yield.
