Apple tree "Venyaminovskoe": variety description, planting and care
The variety of the apple tree "Venyaminovskoe" is distinguished as an elite variety of the fruit tree. The plant received this status in 1995. The difference between the variety is elementary care and good yield, for which it is valued in the circles of experienced gardeners.
Characteristic
Trees are characterized by large sizes. Fruit ovaries are formed on simple and complex annelids. The kidneys are cone-shaped, covered with soft fluff. The leaves are ovate, have a dark green color and a twisted top, small teeth along the edges. There are villi on the plate. The flowers are characterized by a saucer-shaped shape and a white-pink tint. In one inflorescence, 4-5 flowers are often formed.
Fruits differ in the average size, happen asymmetric. Their weight usually reaches 130 grams, sometimes they are cone-shaped. In 2011, fruits weighing 180-300 grams were registered in the Ryazan region. When harvested, the crop is green. After lying down until the final ripeness, the color becomes greenish-yellow, a slightly crimson hue can be observed.
The pulp is dense, juicy, characterized by a sweet-sour taste, belongs to the dessert type, the texture is coarse-grained. There are brown seeds.
Pros and cons
Among the advantages of the variety, the following deserve special attention.
- High winter hardiness. When the variety was tested, at a temperature of -40 degrees, the buds of the tree were slightly damaged, in some places the bark was slightly destroyed.This means that the variety can be grown even in the northern regions of the country.
- Scab resistance. This is one of the most common diseases of apple trees. The disease affects shoots, leaves and fruits, leads to a deterioration in taste and loss of vitamins.
- Good taste qualities. Apples are considered dessert, they are not fleshy and not dry, they are juicy and tasty fruits.
- Ability to transport and store for a long time. Despite the small size of apples, they still retain their marketable appearance for a long time under certain conditions.
The description of the variety would be incomplete if you do not take into account some of its shortcomings:
- requirement for regular watering;
- long period of fruit ripening;
- crumbling of the crop;
- the need for constant pollination.
How to plant?
Due to the excellent frost resistance, this variety can be planted both in spring and autumn. But if the spring period is chosen for planting, then it is necessary to have time before the buds open. It is not necessary to choose areas protected from the wind, but the soil must be prepared in advance. When preparing the land, the following rules must be observed.
- If planting is planned for the spring, then the soil should be fertilized in the fall. If planting is carried out in the fall, then the land should be ready ten days before this event.
- The soil must be freed from weeds and placed in it 5-6 kg of manure or compost, about 400 g of wood ash and a large spoonful of nitroammophoska.
- It is important to make sure that the acidity of the earth is at least 6.0, and that groundwater flows at a distance no higher than 2-2.5 meters from the surface. Groundwater is allowed to be located at a level of 1.5 meters, but only if the bush is planted on dwarf rootstocks.
- It is better to avoid planting on ridges where water is concentrated for a long time after rain or snow melt.
- The most preferred types of soil for this variety are chernozem, gray forest, sandy loam and loam.
When the soil is prepared and the time for planting has come, follow the following steps for planting an apple tree:
- dig holes deep - 70-80 cm, wide - 1 meter;
- place some expanded clay or pebbles in each to organize drainage;
- on top lay a bucket of a compound of humus and non-acidic peat (1: 1), supplemented with nitroammophos and wood ash;
- fill the hole with 10 liters of warm water;
- plant the bush in such a way that the root branches are easily located in the pit and do not bend;
- if the roots of the seedling develop down, then you can build a small hill in the pit and plant a shoot from above so that the roots go down along the edges;
- it is necessary to plant a bush in accordance with the cardinal points as it was planted in the nursery;
- carefully dig the hole;
- water the bush with a couple of buckets of water;
- compact the earth around and mulch with humus;
- tie the shoot to the support.
Ideally, the seedling should be placed on the soil so that its root neck is a couple of centimeters above the ground.
How to care?
Caring for an apple tree of this variety is not particularly different from the standard. Observe the following rules.
Watering
It is important to water the bush during the period of active growth once every 2 weeks with water in the amount of 2-3 buckets. When the tree begins to bloom, use the following watering scheme: 1-2 buckets every 3 days. Another important stage in the development of a plant that needs watering is the period of formation of the ovary, at which time the fruits begin to brown a little. During this period, it is necessary to water the apple tree weekly in 2-3 buckets.
Soil loosening
It is recommended to carry out this procedure after each watering or rain. Especially loosening is relevant for two- or three-year-old trees. It is necessary to completely free the site from weeds for the first 3-4 years, then they can simply be mowed.
top dressing
The apple tree needs to be fed three times. The first is carried out in the spring, for this you can dissolve 1 large spoonful of nitroammophoska in water. The second time the tree is fed during the flowering period, for this, 200-300 grams of wood ash are brought under the bush. The third time the apple tree is fed during the ripening of apples, the most common fertilizer is a mixture of phosphate and potassium salt, each substance in a small spoon. The same top dressing can be used after harvest.
pruning
Thinning and sanitary pruning is carried out for trees that are already 3 years old. The procedure is carried out in March every 2-3 years. Broken and dry shoots, thin specimens, branches growing deep into the crown are pruned. It is recommended to lubricate each cut with garden pitch.
Installation of trapping belts
Gardeners are advised to equip hunting belts in early May. Velcro belts with poison will help protect the tree from pests.
In autumn, the tree needs to be covered with a plastic mesh or bag that will protect it from rodents.
Pollinators
The variety belongs to varieties with partial self-fertility. Only 8% of flowers are able to form with self-pollination. Therefore, agronomists are advised to resort to the help of other varieties. Especially effective for this purpose are "Miron Sugar", "Sharopay", "Arcade Summer".
Harvest and storage
The collection is carried out from mid to late September, but the exact period is determined by the climatic region of the country.For example, in Ryazan, cleaning is possible from September 10, and in the Oryol region a week later. It is important not to delay harvesting, as the fruits will begin to crumble, their skin will collapse, such an apple is no longer suitable for storage. Good fruits are stored in rooms where refrigerators are installed. In such conditions, apples can lie even until March.
But it is important to prevent overripe, otherwise the marketable qualities of the fruit are lost. Usually, apples reach good ripeness within a month after storage, but in especially warm and humid years, maximum ripeness is already possible during the picking period.
However, in the latter case, it should be remembered that in a salable condition such copies can be stored for a month less.
Reviews
For the most part, the reviews of gardeners who decided to plant an apple tree of the presented variety are positive. There is an excellent taste of fruits and the ability to store them for a long time. Some gardeners did not expect that the winter variety could produce such sweet fruits - usually sour apples are characteristic of such varieties. Agronomists are also satisfied with the harvest, but nevertheless they came to the conclusion that it is better to grow branches horizontally - then the harvest will be even greater. Of the minuses, partial shedding of fruits is noted if the crop is not harvested in a timely manner.
Consumers love apples for their versatility. They have an excellent taste, so they are suitable for fresh consumption. The taste and structure of the pulp make it possible to prepare juice, compote, jam, jam, jelly, puree from fruits, these apples can be dried and apple chips can be made. Speaking about the features of the variety, everyone agrees that the fruits form a pleasant apple flavor during storage.
